I owned a Ruger P95 a couple years ago, but let it go in a trade. I got the chance to look at a brand new model the other day. When they took the slide off to look inside, I noticed that the slide runs on polymer rails, like the Ruger P345. I don't remember that from my old one.
Did older 95's have some metal on the frame for the slide rails, or am I just not remembering right? If they changed it, how long ago did they change it?
What kind of service life can be expected from the polymer rails? I know lots of 345's are out there and doing well, I'm just curious.

No metal inserts, the slide runs directly on the long-strand polymer frame rails.

Sheriff Jim Wilson did a 5000 rd test on an early P-95 and had ZERO issues.

Fire away !

Never owned one myself, but I have aquaintances with them and have seen them run very hard for a long time. I think Polymer rails are like global warming..Yea, its gonna make a difference, but not in our or our heirs lifetime....

Can't speak to the P95 but the rails on my P345 look like new. I've had it about 6 years and put thousands of rounds through it. No signs of wear, period. Incidentally, my favorite handgun.
