Ruger P97DC Question

I have the opportunity to acquire a LNIB Blue P97DC for $325.00 OTD. This gun does have an abnormality that I have not seen in any of the numerous Ruger P-Series pistols that I have handled. The slide cannnot be released, after having been retracted, with an empty magazine in the pistol, without first dropping the magazine, enough for the magazine follower to drop below the slide release. Thumb pressure, alone, will not release the slide, with an empty mag in place. Has anyone else experienced this? I am sure that it is some sort of mag-follower issue, however, I did try two different mags,with the same result. Thanks.........

That's the way my P97DC is and I have no problems with the gun so I've always thought it was normal. My older P85 though will let the slide go forward by depressing the slide stop with an unloaded mag in..

I'm able to do this with my P97DC. Not sure if this is a factor, but mine was manufactured in 2004.
