Whats the going price for a NIB Ruger Red Label 20ga? Thinking of picking one up. I ran a search and it looked as if $1100 might be the target price. What say you?

1500 bucks around here. Ruger has been jacking up their prices really fast over the past few years. Many of their guns, some of which I like, are off my consideration list simply because they cost too much for what they are.

But why do you want to buy a 20 G Red Label, anyway?

Don't know, Armedbear. Maybe he likes 'em.:D

I picked up a used Ruger Red Label 20 gauge last year for $250. The guy needed money for a wedding, and his bride-to-be said all his guns had to go. His loss, on both accounts, annd my gain. I have loved this gun to no end.

For $250 I'd get one too, even just for the hell of it.

The stainless receiver is appealing. In hot weather, I've rusted guns with sweat. However, I wouldn't be too excited to hunt the high desert mountains with a 20 that weighs as much as a 12 Gauge 870. I'm not really afraid of 12 Gauge bird load recoil:p; I like a 20 instead because it's light and nimble for all-day carry and fast-flushing quail. Take away "light and nimble", and I lose interest fast.

It'd make a decent skeet gun, but at Ruger's current prices, I'd look long and hard at the copious competition in the same range before buying one. If it REALLY fits and feels best, go for it, but at current Ruger prices, a buyer owes it to himself to check out the Berettas, Brownings, SKB's, Winchesters, Franchis, etc. available for around the same price (or sometimes less).

Just my opinion after trying and looking at a LOT of guns before making a recent purchse.

But I'd buy damn near anything for $250.:D

(And Ruger's little 28 is awfully appealing with an English grip. It's a nicely scaled receiver, about perfect size/weight, and it really has no competition in its price range, if you want what it offers, and I would.)

Matter of preference I guess. I like the stainless reciever.:D It does feel awfully light compared to my buddies RRL 12 gauge. Points well and feels really good in the hands. That said, I don't have a whole lot of experience with over and unders. I've always shot autos and pumps. Probably never would have bought and O/U if not for the deal I got on it.

Yeah, that thing is a real beast.

So's my old 1100 Magnum. Got it for $250, though.:D

That's why I originally went looking for a little 20 Gauge O/U. Had to use a sling with the thing or I'd get wrist cramps after a day in rough country.

Guess $250 is the magic price today. The RRL 12 gauge feels ridiculously heavy. I don't shoot it very well either.

I bought by RRL 20ga for $1299 + tax. I was looking at Brownings and Berettas, but the first to places I went looking, only had blemished guns and wouldnt cut me a break on them. Went to Pekin gun and he showed me the RRL. I was sold - cheaper than the alternatives, well built, and felt great in my hands. I am happy with my purchase.

ruger red label

I bought my Red Label in 1999 for 900 dollars new. Mine is twenty gauge, which is light and trim. I too felt that the larger sized twelve gauge to be not as light and easy to shoulder. I really like the gun and have been able to bag many sharptails and pheasants with it. Its got very nice walnut with tiger striping on the buttstock and the forearm.
