Ruger Redhawk, 4"

Well, it's been about a month since I purchased my new Redhawk with the 4" barrel chambered in 44 magnum. I must say i am very very happy with it. Fit and finish was exceptional for a Ruger, and it was much more accurate than expected. With my favorite plinkin load, a 250 gr. keith style over 6 gr. of titegroup, it will almost keep up with my 7.5" super blackhawk in the accuracy department. Finding a holster was a little trickier. Hunter doesn't currently make an 1100 style for it. But the number 12 made for the S&W 29/629 fit rather well. All in all I highly recomend this revolver. My only complaint is that it isnt furnished with a set of hardwood grips like the longer barrel lengths have. The hogue grips fit my hands fine, but I will have to track down a pair of would grips too.

I have been looking at one of these, on my wish list. I agree that wood grips would sure look nice but understand that the Hogue grips are probably more comfortable. How is the double action trigger?

If you deside you want a really good holster Simply Rugged holster has several to pick from. There pancake design is nice as it will not get hung up on brush and fits snug to the body. You may like the look of the wood but may also find the control is way better with the factory ruger/hogue grips.

Redhawks are built like a tank - you'll be able to hand it down 2 or 3 generations if not more.

Stormin.40, The double action trigger is very respectable. I havent gotten a chance to put the trigger scale to it, however, it feels real good, even douple action pull. Not too gritty or anything else. I am sure it can very a little bit from one to another, however I am quite pleased with it. And I will definitely be checking out simply rugged.

Hondo 60, where did you get that front sight for the four inch Redhawk. Yesterday, I picked up my new four inch Redhawk and want to change the front sight too. It is OK I guess, but a fiber optic would be nice. And as I understand it, the four inch sights are different than the other Redhawks..?

I absolutely love my Ruger 4.2". I wasn;t real fond of the Hogue grips, so I went with a set of Nill Griffe's. They are comfortable and beautiful in my opnion. Only fit and finish thing i don't like, is the crane doesn't sit flush. But she still shoots great

If memory surves correctly there isn't that much difference between a N frame and the Redhawk frame. May not be true of all holsters but a buddy used his N frame holster for his Redhawk.

Desantis makes a nice pancake holster with thumb break that fits it perfectly. I like the thumbbreak because I can release it and draw with one motion.

Pancake81, you should send that back to Ruger. That looks like the crane latch might not engage.

Love it..didn't know Ruger was making the 4" model. I have a 5" blued, it's an excellent armadillo shooter. I will look for the 4" this weekend at the gun show. Nice pistol.

mine is blue, 5.5" with red wood grips.

initial range trip got me to 20.4 gr 2400 with a 240 gr hornady jhp.
next trip will be with lead and for accuracy

Pancake--how is the felt recoil with the Nill grips?

and that crane needs adjusting..it just is not proper

in DA i find it best to be quick with the pull. slow, like smiths are so good at
pulls the gun through 3 movements. authoritative & quick--it stays on target and groups well.

Dang Pancake, that's a great looking gun/grip set up. I like the holster too.

I've always like the 5 1/2 inch version (don't own one yet), but I kind of like the 4" too.

I have a set of the Nils grips on my 5 1/2" Redhawk and have nothing but good things to say about them. The contoured shape seems to widen the contact patch in your palm enough that the recoil no longer is abusive or painful.

With the previous grips (original rosewood RH grips) I could only manage a few cylinders of full house .44mag loads before I was done (320gr @1350fps). With the Nils grips I can burn through rounds all day with no issues whatsoever.
