I currently own a Ruger Redhawk in .44 Magnum with a 5.5" barrel in SS. I have average size hands for a guy (6 foot 200+ lbs) and cannot seem to find just the right grip for it.

I like the stock grips ok, but my hand tends to slide up onto the neck of the grip after a shot or two and I like to grip the gun more towards the base of the grip. I feel as if the area right below the hammer should be filled in more to get this effect. The "hump" at the top of the grip will hit the web of my hand with some of the heavier recoiling shells and I would like to fill that in somehow. I tried a Hogue Monogrip for this revolver and it helped some but it has no palm swell of any kind, and is too deep front to back on the grip to fit my hands comfortably.

I have been reading several books about big bore handguns by John Taffin lately, and he recommends Roper or Skeeter Skelton style grips. I have handled neither personally so I cannot say. The pictures in the book seem to be the right style and fit I am looking for though. I do not wish to get anything fancy or expensive, just a working grip that fits comfortably and will last for many years.

What advice would you recommend for grips to fit well?

I have these Pachmeyer's on mine and I have small to medium hands, and they fit really well and are very comfortable in how the gun feels, as well as in felt recoil. They also do a good job in keeping my hands from riding up too high like you mention also.I dont recall seeing on them anywhere exactly what "model" the grips are (they came with the gun when I bought it used) and I'm at work now, so I cant look, but if you are interested, let me know and I'll do my best to find out what "model" they are if you want.I think they look pretty nice too. Here's a pic:

I think those are the Pachmayr Presentation grips. I have thought about getting something like that.

No, these are the Presentation Grips.
