I just picked up a Nice near mint Ruger Redhawk 44 mag in stainless with huge grip.

looks like this
Picture071.jpg

anyways, i was wondering the value of such a gun. i was in a dead zone at this gun shop so i couldn't check the net. I put it on layway it was $440 + $22 tax.

ive seen a high price of it new for $900 a high priced new for $700 ish and some in the $500s - $600s

just curious if i got a good deal as it kinda seems pricy as i got my 1960s Colt Trooper 38/357 for $285 with tax

BTW it's a "Super" Redhawk.

$440 used is a very good price. Especially if you got the rings.

You're suffering from a common gun ailment. It's called "I remember when I paid...". It can also apply to gasoline, haircuts & hamburgers. Be careful & don't miss good deals because if it. That RRH looks like one. And don't tell youngsters what stuff used to cost, 'cause they don't believe us! Just make sure, if you sell 'em something, you get TODAY'S price!

It didnt come with rings or original grips. but it felt like a good deal. Yea it did seem like i was comparing and second guessing my self. I was orininaly going to get a stainless Taurus 44 mag with 4inch ported barrel for $575 then i seen this one at my gun shop lol.

think i may need to get a second job to support my gun habit.....

It's a fair deal for that gun, the original grips are available on the E-Bay for reasonable prices. Those big grips might be just what you need to shoot that Big Red comfortably, ya never know till you shoot it though.

They are for the most part very accurate revolvers that'll handle any load you care to shoot from them. If you hand load you can really take advantage of everything the .44 has to offer from puffers to blasters. Mounting a scope on them is a breeze.

By the way if your tired of the Trooper I've got $300.00 burning a hole in my pocket LOL. I'll even pay shipping!!

@ RC
the gun i have is Redhawk not super redhawck, the grips on one i got on layaway it says Houge grips or whatever on it.

@ Rem
Thanks but no thanks, havent even fired it yet, and its in really good cond. ive always wanted a colt and a 357 and i got both in one lol.

thanks again guys, you always have answers to my questions lol even if i have verry lil answeres for other peoples...lol

now i need to lay off the gun buying and make the wife happy... =/ lets hope i dont find another good deal (like ruger 22 mag/lr revolver with felt pouch for extra cylender for $275)

Cluster bomb, if the gun in your picture is the one you're buying then it is indeed a SUPER Redhawk. The big stub off the front of the frame clearly marks it as such. The "basic" Redhawk does not have that fattie stub. Check out the Ruger website to see the various models of each.

And I would say that you're far and away better off with either this Super Redhawk or a regular Redhawk (if you just stole the picture from somewhere) over a Taurus.

My own SRH has the funky looking small grip with the wood side panels. It looks nice and pretty with them. But for shooting full house .44Mags you'll appreciate the big Hogue grips if they fit your hands well.

it is the normal redhawk. I was at first going to get the taurus, but decided to check local shops as some have reduced thier prices advertised on radio, and have been selling like hot cakes. And found a Redhawk (not super) he did have a lite weight weird looking taurus for like $500 and something ut it was more of a matte silver color.

mine says Redhawk by the trigger guard on right side, so its a Redhawk.

I cant wate to pick her up soon.......I have always wanted a long barrel stainless revolver lol...oooh and a yellow 69' stingray corvette

I have shot my dads Interarms Dragoon 44 mag, it seemed fine to handle with stock grips not bulky or small. Im just curious as the grip on the Redhawk may add to bulk as i dont know what to do with my pinky as it has no place to curl =/ as my entire hand on my colt 357 fits perfectly and comfortably.

Nothing at all wrong or second class with a "plain" Redhawk. They are great guns. And being a Redhawk you didn't get gyped out of the scope mounts since they don't come with them.

The DA style guns are really best shot with a two handed grip as per the videos from Jerry Miculek. With that style your pinky will find a new friend soon enough... :D

Enjoy your new "big boomer".

Cluster Bomb, did you post a picture of your gun?

'Cuz if you did it clearly says "SUPER REDHAWK" right on the side of the frame.

If it's not your gun then when you posted "it looks like this"... well, it doesn't. And that is what is causing the confusion in this thread.

This is what a Redhawk looks like:

Even so $440 is still a good price, especially if it's stainless.

yea its just from the net. As i didnt really realize there was a super redhawk out there.

I am not a huge fan of Ruger, specialy their revolvers. It is why i was really hesitant on getting it. I find that some of them are just to bulky or look ugly and not to mention they are in my opinion overpriced. Admittedly i haven't fired a ruger pistol (asides from a Mrk II 22lr) Their long guns seem inacurate than they should be for the cost. My 10/22 is no where near asdeadly as my Marlin 60 and 70. when i go out squirrel hunting.

I shall see how she shoots sometime Thursday or Sunday.

after looking online at pictures, I like the black H grips better than the stock wood grips.

As for the revolver shooting technique... i know it quite well but my pinky just feels weird as I amd used to long grips i guess....

If you feel that bad about Ruger firearms, I certainly wouldn't have purchased it. My personal experience has been nothing but positive. I own several Ruger firearms and each has been a reliable, accurate dependable gun. I have another RedHawk on layaway right now.

As a 30+ year Ruger man, I'm curious why you would say that? The Rugers are built like Sherman tanks and will shoot loads that would leave most other brands in pieces for the gunsmith, plus their customer service is second to none. This is a gun that will last long enough to passed onto several generations, enjoy it! ;)

cluster Glad finally we know that picture is not currect . The rubber gripps that ruger does use that llok like the picture are made by Hogue for ruger so they do look the same and work very well at controlling the revolver. Major difference between your dads 44 mag and this well be the SA likes to roll up in your hand and the ruger red hawk will push back with a more controlable barrel rise. Sounds like a good deal.

I think that for a standard production revolver (not a Freedom Arms, Linebaugh, Bowen, etc....) the Redhawk is one of the best built 44mags produced.

I have a 5.5" one and the gun is 2 things for sure

1) Built like a tank. If you look around on some of the reloading or hot ammo sites (Buffalo Bore, Grizzly, CorBon) you will find loads that are listed as both "Ruger Only" or "Redhawk Only". The RH and the SRH set the bar on revolver strength. You can feed your RH a diet of nothing but filling rattling, earth shaking, top end 44 mag loads for as long as you care to endure the recoil. Try that with a S&W or Taurus and you will be headed to the gunsmith to have parts replaced.

2) Just plain accurate. My RH is one of the most accurate revolvers I own, being bested, but only slightly by my SBH Hunter with a scope. The RHs and SRHs seem to have more care put into them than the other Ruger revolvers.

I find that the recoil with the standard wood grips can be a bit on the brutal side if you are shooting heavy recoiling rounds. Something like a Hogue (like your gun has) or Pachmyr can really help reduce the effects, especially if you are not used to shooting a heavy recoiling handgun.

Enjoy your purchase!

No contest between a Redhawk & a Taurus.
The Ruger's a better deal all the way round.
