Just got my first ruger redhawk in a trade today, it's a 5.5 inch barrel in .44 magnum, I have to say the trigger is smooth but kinda heavy around 8 pounds and around 5 pounds in SA. I'm hoping to use this on whitetails this up coming season.

Very nice. I have a 5.5 blued model. I'll never part with it. It's a great time forest/woods gun. I use mine for hot hunting, and mule deer.

That's a beautiful pistol, and a great one to hunt with. I have the 7.5" Redhawk, and it has killed half of the deer I've taken over the years. Great guns, and i love the grips on yours... you will be happy with it.

I have a 5.5 incher as well, and it is a superb shooter. Good luck with the deer this fall!

Nice looking Redhawk! Great, solidly built gun. My brother had the exact gun for when he lived in Alaska and wanted something fairly substantial for when he went hiking. I found an old canvas Webley revolver flap holster for it and it fit the Redhawk quite nicely.

The wood grips look great but are a bit hard on the hands when shooting. I put Hogue Monogrips on mine and have never regretted it. I've had mine over 30 years.

Thanks guys, I'm really liking this one, it came to me with a leaded and dirty barrel I sprayed some ballistol and did a couple of pass throughs with a brush and now it's spotless.

My hands didn't like the Hogue monogrip as well as the factory wood grip, but then I stumbled across these Pacmyers and fell in love.

I thought the factory wood grips that came with my brother's Redhawk were pretty decent in terms of their size and shape. Just the opposite of the grips that came on the Security Six; never did find them to be very comfortable or ergonomic to use. As soon as I got a new Security or Service Six, off came the factory grips and on went the Pachmayr Presentation grips.

For me, the RH factory grips were very small and uncomfortable. Fortunately, my RH had a set of Pachmayr Presentation grips in the box.

That was the ticket for me - much better fitting in my hand. Here's a pic:

The OEM wood grips work for my hands and the factory ammo I shoot. The only pain came from Buffalo Bore ammo which I seldom use. I tried the Hogue Monogrip but it was too much. Wood just feels better to me.

I miss my 7.5" Stainless. Had it set up with the V-notch and gold bead. I had a Hogue grip also. I could hit all six on a paper plate at 100 yards with it. I will admit, it still felt small when a moose got up in front of me in some thick brush, even with the 300 XTP handloads in it. I'm glad it went away from me, not at me.

That's a neat story in my neck of Texas we don't have to worry about Moose or bear, it's those slithery things that I watch out for the most!

A 5.5 stainless was my gift to myself as a 21 year old back in the early eighties. I have shot thousands of rounds out of that one as a college kid. Still a great one. Picked up a blued hunter version cheap a few years after that on close out and its as good as its sibling. I like the redhawks lines a lot better than the super redhawk I love the pachmayers and have them and a set of herrets I use on them also. I got a 45 LC hunter a while back in trade and it has a set of wood houges that seem great.

Enjoy that redhawk as many of us have and do!

That is my favorite Redhawk sight but unfortunately wasn't durable enough for my purposes. I was wearing my Redhawk around the farm, on the floor working on equipment, etc. The front sight apparently got bent just a little. Then I was walking back in a field and jumped a couple of deer that I had permits for. I got one with a pretty bad shot and ended up sitting on it and ending it with my pocket knife (LOL). I only scared the other one. They were close enough that I should have cleanly taken both if it hadn't been for the bent front sight.

Of course, most probably don't use their Redhawk for everyday farm use.

I believe Gemini Custom has a gold bead sight for the interchangeable front sight system available. Bowen claims he is back in production on his rear sights so perhaps a rugged gold bead/v-notch system is obtainable.
