Is it just me or are Rugers stock wood stocks on their rifles absolutely gorgeous? I have 14' Custom Ruger Gunsite Scout rechamered in 358 Win with a wood snow like camo finish that looks amazing and is perfect for this time of year in Michigan.

Is there any aftermarket wood stocks for my rifle that I may like if I like these stock ones?

Rugers are awesome.

Are you talking about the:

Stock as in shape.
The wood itself.
The "camo" finish.

What is it about the particular noted stock that you wish to duplicate? Myself, since you're asking, I've never really noted Ruger to put particularly attractive stocks on their rifles with a few notable exceptions in the past.

Todd.

Nothing im looking to duplicate just Rugers wood stocks seem to really stick out compared to other manufacturers.

I've never seen a gorgeous laminate stock, and I own several. For a while back better then 10 years ago Ruger had some nice figured walnut on factory rifles that I own several of. I just picked up a aftermarket fancy figured walnut replacement stock for a 1980's Win Model 70 lightweight that had a thin ugly factory laminate stock on it. I know laminates can be more stable in extreme conditions but glued together wood does nothing for me. If I wanted stable in a custom gun I'd get a McMillen composite.

In general I agree, and think Ruger's current multi-color laminates are especially unattractive. But, a few years ago Ruger did make a laminated stock in two shades of brown that was considered by many to be very attractive. It was used on some of the RSI rifles, and is now considered to add value to an already scarce gun.

Just you.

I own a few, have owned many, and respect Ruger firearms for what they are. One thing they pretty much universally are not, though, is attractive.

I have a 2005 compact Ruger M77 MarkII with a silver and black laminate stock.I like the appearance and the weight.

I don't find laminate as attractive as solid wood as it's just another name for plywood. Ruger has for years used mundane looking walnut on their firearms. Years ago I think they used Circassian walnut on the African series of 77's.

I ran across a batch of Mark II's with this wood and bought this one. It's a 270 Win and will make any Ruger, even one with a little figure look blahhhhh.

Wow, that is a "unique" stock and nearly one of the closest relatives to the SKS looking stocks I was used to looking at back in the 90's when they were lurking around every corner. It almost looks painted in some respects but once again very "unique". My experience with the older firearm (I owned) Ruger M77 hardwood stocks had a bland grain almost painted look but extreme hard oil furniture finish that gave them a buttery feel. The actions were also buttery smooth therefore a very pleasant firearm to handle. I deeply regret not owning my original Ruger M77 Bolt Action in .277 Caliber. For reasons of appearance and texture, however, it was a combination that brought it together as a perfect package.

Stocks are funny things. While I admire and drool over the very nice curly maple and other high end stocks some guns have, I also appreciate the utilitarian "beater" stock.

Beauty is in the eye of the beholder and if i was looking for an all weather rifle, the laminates would be up on the list. On a best quality English Double, only the finest figured wood looks right.

They all serve a purpose and I like my plastic stocked bolt guns and AR types just as much as I do my 1960-something vintage Remingtons with nice wood. They just serve different purposes.

I bought a Ruger G.S.R. about 2 years ago. It has a gorgeous laminate stock on it! I almost put another stock on it, as it was so nice I didn't want to mess it up! I love the stock on my Ruger! Wish I could afford another one!

Here's the best pic I could get of my Ruger G.S.R stock.. chambered in 358 Win for those curious. Sorry for the low light and bad pic.
