Well, a friend finally pulled his FIL's gun out of the attic. I've been bugging him for months to know what it is. (he's not a gun person) First question he asked is how old it is.

Here's what I know: three screw, ser # 90xxx, black plastis grips, on the side it says "Ruger .22 cal Single-Six. I explained the transfer bar but he hasn't gotten back to me.

Can anyone give me the manufacture date? And what did these shoot .22lr or mag or both? Any other info would be great also. Thanks in advance.. Rick

1958 Mfg date. Should have a flat loading gate, and long rifle cylinder. If it hasn't been converted to the transfer bar system, I would leave it for collector value.

Thanks Rule, thats what I told him about the transfer bar. Hope it wasn't done. Rick

If it's survived its less than ideal storage, he may have a wonderful old Ruger that deserves better treatment than to be left to languish in the attic. Particularly if it has the original box.

I saw a pic last night. looks to be well used. But the cool factor... It was her Dad's. I told him I'd clean it up for him if he wants.... Rick

LOL.....

Rick, once " you clean it up for him " you know you'll have to have it, don't fight it, we've all been down that road before...:)

If they want to sell it I'm first in line. But he emailed me last night that he hadn't put it down.

Coincidentallly my first gun was my FIL's deer rifle. I couldn't put it down. I've got a few more since then, and I hope he gets the bug too. It is contagious.

I like that little gun but I'd rather have a new shootin buddy... Rick

Ruger would only fit a magnum cylinder to these old Single Sixes with a serial number higher than 150000. That is the approximate point where the larger bore barrel was initially installed for the convertibles.
