Now that they've been out for a while, how is the SR-556 doing in terms of reliability? I've been curious to hear from folk that have owned and shot them for a bit to see if the piston adaptation has caused any troublesome or abnormal wear....

I own 3 SR series rifles. A SR556E, SR556VT and a SR762. With the exception of the triggers in the SR556E and SR762, I have had 0 problems. Th VT has a decient trigger in it but as for the other two, it didn't take long to change them out. I tried cleaning and buffing them but that was a waist of time. Thank you Timney!

How is the buffer extension and upper receiver wearing? Any significant wear from carrier tilt?

All the information I was able to find in different forums, sounded like there were problems in early versions. Ruger made a concerted effort to fix the carrier tilt problems and it seems to have paid off. I have had no problems in that area and don’t hear that happening anymore. They got it together and discontinued the platform with the exception of the breakdown version. I just purchased POF P-308 gen 4 with a 20” barrel and POF has made provisions for the carrier tilt issue also. They built a lot of innovations into this newest generation of their AR-10 platform.
