Ruger SR 9 vs. CZ P-01

I don't have personal experience with the SR9, but the SR9c (compact) is getting pretty good reviews and is probably more comparable in size to the PO1. Personal preference is what is most important, and I find that my preferences change with my experiences.

Don't have a dog in this fight. However, we own both a CZ75 (very old one), and a CZ40P. Neither is anything to write home about as far as accuracy, reliability (especially the 40P), or ergonomics go.

As we're all dealing with personal opinions here, mine is that the CZ75 feels a bit odd, but comfortable. The CZ40P feels great, but is a jammamatic. Neither is a precision pistol in anyone's hands that I've ever let shoot them.

CZ makes a nice rifle, though. I just can't get around the looks of some of their pistols, either.

Shoot both, or all, and choose from which fits you the best.

I didn't realize that a CZ thread could be active for so long without Haifisch coming in and voicing his hatred for all things CZ

haha Starcheck. Check this out and prepare for shock.

I really enjoy my P-01. In fact, I love the thing.

Sadly, it's not the practical choice for me.

I can't carry it. The grips are just too wide. It's a hefty gun.

It's good for the range, but the trigger is terrible. $225 for a trigger job at CZ custom is too much. Might as well get a full sized steel CZ 75... maybe SAO.

If it was a true service pistol it would be perfect, but its not.

I'm trading mine for a 6" .357/.38 revolver. I think that will pass for a range gun.

I have a p-01. I absolutely love it. Aluminum alloy frame makes it light but strong. Mine has been dead reliable. I shot my ccw qualification with it using crappy Magtech lead round-nose re-manufactured ammo. (It was during the height of the ammo shortage and what i could find available in quantity.) It fed, fired and ejected that dirty, nasty, mismatched-case crap without any issues whatsoever. It is a durable, reliable, well-balanced and accurate gun. I have small hands and find the DA trigger reach long, but perfectly acceptable. If you get one, you won't regret it. Personally, i also think it is one of the most aesthetically pleasing of all CZ Pistols. It has panache.

I prefer the SR9c and the Glock 19 over the CZ P01. The P01 felt better in my hand, than any pistol I've ever held. But, the reach to the trigger in DA is too long. The trigger pull sucks. At the time I owned mine, a trigger job was $180. The main problem though, was that the end of the trigger actually dug into the pad of my trigger finger! I changed the trigger out for a 85c trigger, which helped. By then I was already disenchanted with the P-01. When I found out that I shot the Glock 19 better than the CZ, the CZ had to go. I then got a G19.

I've read so much positive stuff about the SR9c that I handled one at the LGS. It felt pretty good. I bought it. It is a tad heavier than the Glock 19. The SR9c carry magazine is not equal to the Glock . . . only 10 rounds for the SR9c. The SR9c qualities are: fits my hand, trigger pull is acceptable, no pain in my finger, lighter than an all metal pistol, recoil is manageble and most of all, it has better accuracy than the CZ, or the Glock. With it's shorter barrel, I don't know why? The manual safety is the deciding feature for me. In short, I'm more comfortable with the SR9c.
