Thinking of getting a Ruger SR1911 Lightweight Commander style. Anyone on THR have one of these? If so, tell me about it.

Thanks

I have always liked the slightly more compact Commander and Combat Commander in comparison to a full size 1911. Just seems to the right combination of size and balance for me. The Ruger Lightweight Commander looks to be a great design with quite a few nice features to it for the price. I would definitely consider getting one.

I have the steel frame SR1911 Cmdr., fantastic gun to shoot. If the lightweight shoots as well as the steel frame gun, it's a winner. We already know that it will carry a little better, that is if you intend to carry it

Yep, concealed carry is what I plan for the SR1911. I just ran across a great review by Jeff Quinn at Gunblast. Guess I need to go ahead and plan for the inevitable - I have to have one. ;)

I do not find aluminum framed 1911's pleasant to shoot for extended practice.

They are great for carry though.

I think the ideal combo would be a steel version for the range and an aluminum version for CCW.

It seems a little snappier than my Para expert carry. Haven't taken them out and shot them side by side for controllability and accuracy comparison.

I think I'd get the steel framed sr1911 cmd instead. I am a little prejudiced towards aluminum pistol frames. I've read that a lot of heavy shooting with the aluminum framed commanders can cause cracks in the slidestop area around the barrel/slide retaining pin hole. I'd rather put my trust in the stainless steel framed ruger commander. It weighs a little more but is more durable and will give more years of service in the long run.

All depends on the intended use of the pistol Capstick1. If you intend to shoot it a lot and/or not carry it, then yes the steel frame makes more sense, However if your plan is a little shooting and a lot of carrying, the LW frame is definatly the way to go.
I currently own 3 1911s; two steel, one LW. The steel frames are much nicer at the range, but that LW makes a huge difference after standing all day with a holstered sidearm.
