My youngest son just bought a brand new sr40c. He's going to bring it over for disassembly, clean, lube, then we'll go shoot it next weekend.

Anything in particular to watch for in the "break-in" shooting of this particular firearm?
Thanks for any tips.
ETA Should he get some snap caps to wear in the gun, or can this be dry-fired without them? I'm
not at all familiar with Ruger centerfire autos.

Nope. Clean and shoot. It shouldn't need a "break in period" IMHO. Every weapon needs to prove itself to me before it goes to carry rotation.

Ditto on no breakin. You can dryfire all you like a long as an empty mag is inserted in the gun.

Remove the striker and clean the factory grease out of the striker channel. I had a few light strikes until I preformed this procedure.

He has to bring it to you to get it ready to shoot? My suggestion is to make that a one-time thing, with you watching him do it.

Just Purchased a SR40C

I Just Purchased one last Tuesday,Read the Manual, break the gun down per the manual, clean it per the manual,re-assemble per the manual,Read the function of the firearm per the manual, every firearm is different, read the safety instructions. Then do it 3 or 4 more times.I have ran 300 rounds of different ammo through mine without a glitch.I did have a concern about machining on the barrel but that is not an issue. .You have purchased one of the top 40 caliber Compact C&C firearms manufactured,I was accurate out of the box with mine You need to get a Tauga Leather Holster ,there is no particular holster for the 40 the SR9C and the 9mm are interchangeable for both.If you get a Tauga holster wrap the gun in the plastic bag it came in and holster it overnight and it will stretch the holster for a perfect fit I have fired most 40 caliber firearms IMO the Ruger SR40C is the best..Be Safe..

Tagua's are OK holsters and a decent value... I have a couple in my gun bag. You'll be a bit limited in the types available. The company does stand behind their products.

They sent me an IWB holster for my SR9c as compensation for a belt that bled on my clothes... the holster I received was actually made for the full size gun. I wrote the company and inquired whether they use the same holster for for both compact and fullsize guns and never received a replay. I didn't complain since it was sort of a freebie. Also, the clip wasn't all that secure so I replaced it with one from one of my nylon holsters and it is now rock solid.

Anyway, if you order from Tagua, just make sure you are getting the holster you want. I personally would spend a little more for something with a bit more quality.
