Ruger SR45 Impressions

Let me start by saying that I am a life long Glock guy. I have owned Glock pistols since I was 21 y/o.

Well.....I have to say that I am impressed with the Ruger! I have tried the Glock 21, Springfield XD .45, Ruger P90 and P97 and could not find .45 happiness. That might have changed.

Overall the pistol is very will made and the gun fits the hand very well. Although it is about the same size as my Glock 20, it feels much more like my 17. I used the curved back strap and it fits my hand just right.

The trigger is simply amazing. I can't wait to shoot some rounds through it this weekend.

I was concerned about loading the magazine, but found I could easily load all 10 rounds without the use of the loading tool. However the magazines are difficult to seat when fully loaded. I have loaded them up and will let sit for a couple of days.

Off to the desert on Saturday to shoot. I will post an update when I get back.

I'm picking mine up saturday. I was looking for an SR40. I couldn't find one here in california. The SR45 became available so I went for it. I'm keeping my fingers crossed as I really like the 45acp round. Mark

I've only been able to shoot about 300 rounds thru mine in 2 months, no issues so far.

Nice purchase! I too am generally a Glock type person but love pretty much all guns and I really like the SR series of Ruger's. I would love the black version. But then I start thinking about the SR1911. Need one of each I guess.

Ya i wanna try the SR45. I own a P90,shot the P345. I plan buying the SR45 when available as a SR45c. Glad to hear its strucure is good,wouldnt expect nothing less from Ruger.I would appreciate an update after 5k-10k rounds

Me too brother (bought first in 1991), but my wife has bought three SR guns (SR9, SR9c and SR40) and wants at least two more ... SR40c and SR45. She's commented on the SR22 but already has a Mark III Target so she's unsure about it.

I have to say, the SR guns she bought are just very nice: perfectly reliable through about 400 or so rounds each, accurate, very nice triggers and quite pleasant to shoot.

I just picked mine up the day before yesterday. I haven't shot it yet, because I only have 50 rounds on hand, and want to scrounge a little more (damnable ammo shortage!) first. I should be able to get a little more this week, and when I have at least 200 rounds, I'll take it to the range.

I have noted that one of the magazines won't hold the slide open, but I want to see if there are any other issues with it before I contact Ruger about that. Also, from what I hear, the gun has a magazine safety that is supposed to make the trigger feel grittier if you dry fire it with the mag removed, but I can't notice the least bit of difference. I also want to make sure that component is working properly before I contact Ruger. The manual safety I would like slightly bigger, but it's okay the way it is.

I love the way the gun feels in the hand and the way it balances. I think Ruger did a nice job of making a double stack .45 quite slim, and not feel like trying to hold a two-by-four. I have smallish hands, so fat-grip guns don't fit me so well. It points naturally, and the trigger feels excellent in dry fire. It doesn't hurt that it's a pretty gun either. Most modern guns are lacking in the looks department. They are either functional appearing to the extreme, like the Glock and the XD series, or else they are overly stylized, like the S&W M&P series, or the Beretta Storm, with scalloped slide serrations or stippling in weird geometric patterns or so forth, designed for looks and serving no functional purpose. The Ruger gets it just right: simple, good old-fashioned checkering on the grip, and no extra "styling" in the frame and slide. The rounded upper slide and frame dust cover look nice, and make the gun a little nicer to wear in a holster, especially an IWB one, and the the proportions and contours of the pistol are nice. They even managed to make the frame rail less obtrusive to the eye, and yet retain its functionality. It's not exactly a return to the beauty of the polished blueing and fine walnut grip era, but it's nice to see a modern, striker-fired pistol that actually looks good, in addition to being a good, reliable defensive handgun.

Got mine about a month ago.. About 500 rnds through it so far.. Nice shooting... Wanted the Springfield 5.25 XDM, but nobody had any in stock.. Saw this and grabbed it while I still could..

I bought my SR45 back in January and had to send it back to Ruger for repair. The slide wouldn't lock back about half the time and the front dovetail grove for the sight was cut off to one side of the slide. Ruger replaced the slide and repaired the slide lock mechanism. Gun worked fine when I got it back except the slide would not lock back consistently with one of the magazines. I called Ruger and they sent me a new magazine as a replacement for the defective one at no charge. The new magazine works fine. I have since ordered two more new magazines from shopruger.com. The trigger pull was very gritty until I cleaned a ton of crap out of the striker channel, now the trigger is really smooth. I like the way this gun feels in hand and I shoot it a little more accurately than my SR9.

I'm in the same boat with a gun I ordered that my LGS is having difficulty obtaining. he gets all my firearm business and I think I am at 7wks so far.(Just a G19). I ended up buying one off gunbroker, a few days ago to ensure my wife will receive her gun. I will keep my order with my LGS though and flip it if it ever comes in..

I almost bought a SR40 a year or so ago, ended up with a 229 instead. If they'd had the SR45 that would be in my home now.

I'll have to check one out first time I can, if the price was right I'd pick one up tomorrow....of course you have to find one first.

I got out there and put a 150 rounds through it. I would have shot more, but the wind was blowing about 40 mph out there this weekend. The gun ran great and ate up 100 rounds of CCI Blazer and 50 rounds of black box Wolf. I could not do any accuracy testing because of the wind, but on informal targets it hammered with ease. I found the magazines easy to load with no loading tool. It is a very soft shooting gun! I shoot a lot of 9mm, .45, and 10mm. This is the softest shooting .45 I have ever shot. Not sure why, but it is really soft on the hand. There were no malfunctions of any kind and the gun was subjected to a couple of hours in the blowing dust and sand. I know that it is not really a long term test or testament, but so far it is a real winner.

I forgot to mention the trigger. It is great! I fired 50 rounds with the mag safety out and could not tell the difference. It is very easy to transition from other striker fired platforms and is very light and crisp.
