Ruger SR45

MSRP is $529. I'm hoping that will translate to a discounted price of mid- to maybe even lower- 400's (after it's been out for a while.) That seems in line with what the 9mm's are. We'll see how I'm doing financially at that time.

I don't think having two .45's is a bad idea.

Just got back from the gun store in a neighboring, larger city (they had a good supply of both guns and ammo at regular prices:what:), I was told the SR45 probably wouldn't be in their store until mid summer. :banghead:

I hope he's wrong!!

I don't post much but thought I would actually log in to chime in. Ruger has turned me back into a fan with their SR series. I have been carrying the SR9c since Spring. I had no problems qualifying with that pistol when I passed my NRA Basic Pistol Instructor this Fall.

I have a new respect for Ruger. The value is just there. They work reliably and they make it a point to keep the price down for average folks who just want something for personal protection. I am going to get a full size SR9 for my students soon and stumbled upon the fact that they are releasing this SR45. I believe this SR45 is going to end up being one of my home defense pistols. Generally revolvers and shotguns fill this role but I have been very impressed with the functionality of my SR. A big bore SR will fit the bill nicely.

I don't have any qualms with magazine disconnects or safeties. Except when the safeties don't stay "off". I had this problem with my Berretta 92 when I was playing cop (auxiliary volunteer). I have never had a problem with my SR9c safety staying off. The detents are strong and positive. I only use the safety to holster the pistol AIWB, and then it stays off.

A magazine safety is not necessarily about preventing a negligent discharge. I know a lot of you folks are going to disagree with the premise of an added safety but hear me out. There is a fair amount of training regarding positive control of a pistol that an attacker may be able to use against you. If you are about to be overpowered by a surprise attacker, you can drop the magazine and render the pistol worthless. This is more law enforcement/open carry orientated but some departments are looking for these features. I have read that disabling this feature is pretty easy if you do not want it.

Loaded Chamber Indicators provide a positive visual and tactile affirmation that the gun is loaded. I like to keep mine that way... Locked and loaded with the safety off. I would never depend on an LCI to determine if the gun were unloaded. That would be foolhardy indeed.

Loaded Chamber Indicators do not jam center fire pistols folks. People who don't take care of their firearms jam guns. Basically, shame on you for not paying attention to what is going on with your firearm. This is your life line. You need to know how it works inside and out vs letting someone lead you to believe how it MIGHT work.

Remove mag and lock slide back. Or rack slide with an empty mad and then remove mag.
Push ejector down/forward until it stops. Pull slide back slightly, and slowly let it forward.
Slid it off the frame.
Remove rear slide cover and striker. Remove magazine disconnect and spring.
Reassemble in reverse order of disassembly.
Mag disconnect is now removed.
I took mine out, and then put it back in. I didn't notice a difference in the trigger pull.
