Bought an XD 45 last week on sale at Cabela's to supplement my XDm 9mm and got a $150 gift card.

Might as well use it for another gun.

I'm interested in another 9mm (ammo is cheaper and I have another 1911 45 ACP) possibly for carry. The Ruger caught my eye.

How does this gun shoot? ok at the range ? How is it to carry?

It's hard to tell from pics just how big it is and how the weight might be for carry. I read that it has a slightly smaller feel in the hand which is ok for me.

Any recomendations?

It's a good shooter. Buy it but you might want to use the gift card for ammo because your Ruger is going to eat it as fast as you can feed it.

It is a great gun. It's accurate, slim, high capacity, fun to shoot, and a great value. It's Achilles heel is its trigger. Heavy and kind of rough at first. I'm really looking forward to the aftermarket trigger that Ghost is supposed to be releasing soon.

Here's my whole story---

Mine had the barrel peening so bad after 100 rounds or so--that it would hold the slide back.

Sent back to Ruger--on their dime---and had it back in 2 weeks---they replaced the slide and barrel.

Its now a good shootin gun with no peening---and VERY accurate.

The trigger gets better the more you shoot it and I removed the mag disconnect--so now I can dry fire the heck of it.

If you want a magazine safety and an manual external safety (thumb safety), the SR9 is a good choice. Ruger has very good customer service and will stand by their products if you have any problems.

I personally love the slim grip and slim overall dimensions.

However, I don't want a handgun with a mag safety or a manual external safety or an internal lock. Too many useless "safety" devices if you ask me

I understand the mag safety can be removed.

Hi all. I purchased a new SR-9 in December 08, my first wonder 9, the only silver on black one they had, one of the post recall versions with the new trigger, etc. I took it to the range the next day, and on the 2nd magazine it malfunctioned - failure to feed, and as I was clearing it I noticed that it had a crack on the lower reciever near the take down pin and when I tilted it to the left to look at the right side the take down pin fell out. So I was pretty upset - took it back to the dealer, they sent it back to Ruger. I was thinking I had really gotten hold of a lemon.

When I got it back after 2 weeks it had a new lower end and was all cleaned up and has worked perfectly since. So am happy now and really impressed with Ruger's making it right.

I find it is pretty big for CC for myself, especially in the summer, but as mentioned it is comparable to my Cbt Cdr. Another thing I noticed, it is light when empty, but with a full mag the weight seems to about double! But it is hoot to shoot now! Sights are very nice. I'm pretty happy.

This is my second Ruger, I also have a Ruger chunk of real steel otherwise known as an SP101, 5 rounds, 6 if you throw it, so I am very pleased with Ruger overall.

I love mine. The trigger is smoothing out nicely after about 1000 rounds. I don't think anything needs to be done once you get a few hundred through it. Accurate and reliable.
