I wonder if anyone owning a 9mm Ruger SR9 has ever experenced an accidental ignition while cycling the slide to load the chamber for the first round?

I have had two (2) such incidents, and sent the piston back to Ruger, who checked it over and returned it with a note saying "We have checked all the safety devices and find the all in proper working order.

I am a former Michigan Conservation Officer, have handled many many firearms, and literally hundreds of young folks Hunter Safety porgrams. I am a licensed NRA Pistol and Home Defence Instructor and taught many others the safe handling of firearms. I concidered that maybe, just maybe, I had a finger on the trig. when I racked that first round in, so from that point on I was intensely attentive on my "keep your finger off the trig. until ..."

I think I have run maybe 350-425 rounds through this new semiautomatic pistol with these two ignitions while loading.

Anyone ?

ACS:confused:

thls will be intersting.....I like the idea of this pistol, and am going to check one out today after work..I'll hold off buying till I hear the buzz about possible issues.

Apparently this is not totally uncommon in Striker fired guns (though it is rare, since they have lots of safety features to prevent it). Here's a thread about an almost identical problem with an XD .40 cal.

it has an interesting problem. when ejecting the last round out of the firearm, it discharges. drop magazine, pull slide back, get slide 1/2 way back, round discharges.

repeatable. by more than one person. I guess it goes back tomorrow. shocked me when it happened. shocked the wife too, and then had someone else try it.

three people, same problem .. every time.

Its a shame Ruger couldn't figure out what happened.

I have only shot 150 rounds out of mine and have not had a porblem yet. I will keep that in mine just in case. So far all the Rugers I have owned have been great. Have a 1022 that is a sweet shooter and good tree rat gun.

I would think a Home "Defence" instructor would be able to spell defense. After the last post you made about this firearm, and the way you dealt with the topic, or didn't deal with it, your credibility has been damaged on this site. I do hope we can keep this one out of the gutter and can get some feed back from you. Trolling is never appreciated.

can you remove and clean the firing pin? like in a 1911?

is this happening when you strip a round off of the top of the magazine? or are you loading the first round in the chamber?

Well maybe some of you owe this poor guy an apology .
Tried to tell everyone about a problem .
Now there is a recall .

Well Sir trying to do the right thing isn't always popular .
Thanks for trying on The High Road :banghead:

The reason for the recall is not the same issue described by the OP.....

This is from the Ruger site...

We have determined that some Ruger SR9 pistols manufactured between October 2007 and April 2008 can, under certain conditions, fire if dropped with their manual safeties in the "off" or "fire" position. The pistols will not fire if the manual safety is in the "on" or "safe" position.
