Ruger SR9c. Any thoughts, experience, etc?

I'm looking for a small compact 9mm for concealed carry and range use. I currently live in the only state in the union without any type of concealed carry permit but I do have a non resident permit from another state that allows me to carry in a couple of other states that I visit with some regularity. This pistol will probably spend most of its time at the range and some limited time as a carry weapon. I currently have large frame 9mms for range use but would like a compact for practice as well.

I've also been considering a Glock 26. I own a number of other Rugers (centerfire and rimfire) and have always had good luck with them. Any reason not to buy the SR9c?

I really like the SR9c. Feels good in the hand and a great size/firepower compromise.

I have the full size SR9. Excellent gun. Feels good in my hand. Shoots great. Can't complain. I also know of a guy in OK that has one for $375 shipped. I bought his SR9.

Also in IL, bought the SR9C for range use and maybe carry someday. Love it so far.

I've sold both the Ruger and the Glock.
Given the price difference especially the Ruger is the overall winner. Nice gun, I wouldn't hesitate to carry one myself.

How does the 17 round mag with grip extension feel with this pistol.

I don't like the compact with the grip extension on the mag. It feels awful to me. However, the small mag with finger extension or extended mag with out the grip extension feel good in my hand. YMMV.

I have the SR9 and am very pleased with the quality..

and plan to get the SR9c for CCW. Excellent gun for the money.

I've had one for 2-3 mos. Probably close to 1000 rounds through it because I love shooting it. It is reliable, accurate and simple to field strip for cleaning. Go for it!

Well you don't have to use the manual thumb safety and the mag safety can be removed if you really have an issue with it. So I wouldn't let that sway your decision.

I'm with everyone else here, I've had my SR9-C for 3 month's, put about 300 rounds through it, love it! Its accurate, 100% reliable, soft recoil, feels great in my hand and has good balance. This is an outstanding pistol, you can't go wrong with it. The trigger is a little gritty when its new, but after a few hundred rounds, its smooth as butter, very nice.

Oh crap forgot about the mag safety.

So that's 2 more safeties than necessary.

Bad thing about the thumb safety is that it could accidentally get put on when you need it the most.

And then there is the disengaging the mag safety. So you are going to alter a gun that you potentially could use to defend yourself. I can see that going well in court.

Anyhow not to argue, just pointing out that it's a good gun if you like all the features that come with it.

The thumb safety on this gun will not accidentally switch on. It's small and hard enough to switch that it just won't happen. Go test it yourself if you don't believe me.

The SR9c is a great value for the dollar. I've put several thousand rounds through mine and can't complain, then again I don't buy a $400.00 gun and go on a gun website and piss and moan that it doesn't have all the features of a $2500.00 custom gun.

Just a couple of ideas after shooting a couple of hundred rounds through an SR9c. I haven't used one in an extended range session, but the impression that I get from the grip is that it could become pretty slick when your hands get sweaty. Also, I got the impression that the rear sight notch was smaller than what I'm used to. (Novak & 10-8) I had a hard time quickly acquiring the front sight in the notch. The owner of the SR9c agreed after shooting my M&P. We looked for aftermarket sights and could not find any for it. I'm not sure that there is much out there as far as aftermarket support. It may not be a factor for you but it's something to consider. The SR9c was very soft shooting and it has been reliable for my friend. Good luck.

I don't mind the magazine safety so much - my M&Ps had a mag safety as well and that didn't stop me from carrying them, either. The thumb safety is really unobtrusive, and neither impedes carry nor is likely to get swept off during carry.

I've been shooting mine all summer in the Texas heat, and have noted no issues WRT it getting sweaty, either in terms of hanging on to it or it rusting.

I've been OK with the stock sights, but that's probably in part due to the fact that the gun very naturally points for me.

I've probably got around 1K rounds through it so far, and it has yet to display any issue with any ammo.

I'm pleased with mine, and will likely being buying another soon enough...
