Ruger turns the 10/22 into a handgun

The 10/22 action is JUNK compared to my 22/45.

I sold my 10/22, but wouldn't willingly part with my 22/45 slabside target pistol ever, if I could help it.

Now the Volquartsen version, I'd consider. But if you want a .22 pistol, Ruger already makes one that is WAY ahead of their 10/22 in terms of functional reliability and features. And it's machined steel.

I don't get it. It's a handgun that you pretty much have to fire from a rest or from its bipod. Seriously, what advantage does it offer over a MkIII or Buckmark with mounted optics? A .22 handgun that can't practically be used offhand doesn't seem like much of a deal to me.

You could legally buy a rifle stock AND longer barrel for this thing, convert it to rifle with BOTH parts and you won't have an NFA item. You could then bring it back down by again swapping both parts. The problem is you can't swap just one part - ooops.

I'd have to check, but I *think* you could slap a REALLY long barrel on it and leave the pistol grip, giving you enough overall length to be legal. But that would make for a really stupid gun.

There may be some cops out there that would hassle you over one of these things, not realizing it's a factory pistol.

Finally...how soon before we have a 22Mag version? With a 30rd banana mag you've actually got a potent defense piece on your hands, esp. if you can't cope with recoil.

I want one!

And it is a perfectly legal pistol, not a SBR, not an AOW, just a pistol. Other companies have had them for awhile; I'm just surprised Ruger did something this cool. :)

Its a neat idea but I guess I don't see the big advantage of it over a Mark II or Mark III.

Maybe for a benchrest or varmint type of affair or perhaps for the big magazines. I think I would still prefer my Mark II.

I just got a "few" AR Receivers sent to my FFL. They were logged and transferred as stripped receivers. With that said, I can build them into pistols or rifles without any ATF worries. All I do is call my FFL when I have some sent to them and tell them up front to bring them into the books as stripped receivers, not rifle or pistol.

I'd like to try some offhand shooting with it - support hand on the forearm. Bet it's as quick and nearly as accurate as the rifle. It would rule the pin tops at bowling pin shoots too, I imagine.

ruger charger

These are available right now put one on layaway on Dec 28th itch to get it out now. And yes it does come with the bipod and in a tan/khaki soft carry bag with the ruger logo. Was ready to buy without even picking it up did'nt even know it was being made.

ruger charger

For me it's the wow/coolness factor. Go out to a range with the Charger and a Mark II, and the Mark II won't even get a second glance. Also I believe the Charger will have a large following for aftermarket parts like the 10/22. A Tactical Solutions barrel would be real sweet!

I think that would be cool. Tactical Solutions says they are working on barrels already, could be a neat novelty.

I'll probably spend some money on either this or the .22LR Mp5 that is coming out...

Don't hold your breath on a 22 Mag version. Ruger already tried the 10/22 in 22 Mag and ceased production in less than one year because the guns had serious feeding problems. Remington tried it as well with a 597 based action, also ran into feeding problems, and also discontinued the gun in less than a year. Those really long skinny straight wall .22 Mag cartridges don't like to feed in semi-autos.

I think it would make a sweet backpack piece, with 5 of the TI 25 rd. mags. You could use the mags as a somewhat of a verticle hold. :D

A guy had one of these at my gun club day before yesterday. He was shooting it on the indoor range. He was shooting groups about like what you'd expect from a 10/22 rifle at 50 feet. He was shooting it from the bipod on a bench.
Color me unimpressed. It's a pistol that you can't shoot like one shoots a pistol. It's too big and clunky to shoot like a handgun, but has no shoulder stock to fire it from the shoulder, either. YMMV, but I'll pass.
