ruger vs. taurus

P series Ruger. We sell at least one a week and have never had one come back with problems. Built like tanks (could be a downside, there as they are bulky)

I can't speak for the semi-autos, but my family has owned a Taurus .22 revolver and a Ruger SP101 in .357, and the Ruger is significantly better. My Dad is just waiting for the Taurus to consistently lock up so he can be sure it will lock up when he sends it in to get fixed (so they don't say "didn't lock up for us" and send it back), while the Ruger works like a champ.

looking to puchase a .9mm. new or used it really doesnt matter to me. ive decided on either ruger or taurus. im trying to stay as close to $300 as possible, $400 is my max though. any suggestions?
Well it's a battle of the bottom feeders is it? I'd have to "uhh" hold my nose and vote Ruger, though it would not be due to any significant increase in quality, rather it would be for easier access to the mother-ship when it comes time to fix it....

im leaning highly towards ruger... especially the sr9c... i really like the design compared to anything taurus has. plus the 10rd and 17 round magazines that come with it are a plus.

Ruger P95 or a Taurus 24/7 PRO. I own the former and am quite pleased with it. I do own some Taurii also although none are a 24/7 PRO model. Guys on the Taurus Armed forum who have them do seem to be happy with their purchases however and swear by them. In the end I can't see you going wrong with whichever you select.

Bottom feeders? Both guns are superior to, say, a Hi-Point.

Ruger, a bottom feeder? The SR models are excellent.

Get the gun(s) in your hands and shoot them if you can! I like the feel of the SR9 / SR9c, but I wanted an outside hammer, DA/SA and went with a stainless P95. If I hadn't liked the feel of the P95, however, I would have gone with an SR9.

Many of the internal parts of P-series pistols are stainless, and the P95 has a well-deserved rep for reliability and durability. It's a well-engineered design with few issues. There's a tiny ring on the end of the recoil spring guide (called the camblock by Ruger) that can come loose, but the pistol can be run with no problems without it, according to what I've read.

Mine runs fine on everything I've fed it: a mix of brass-cased ball and JHP ammo of different weights. 9mm+P or +P+ is no big deal in the P95. An interesting point is that the Ruger P95 is one of the few pistols whose manual approves of steel- and aluminum-cased ammo, so you won't void your warranty if you insist on using cheap, steel-cased 9x19mm.

All my best,
Dirty Bob

Ummm..."Bottom feeder" = semiauto. They feed from the bottom. ;)

As for the OP.. Ruger, no question. Personally, I would opt for a used KP98 over a P95, but that's just me.

Ruger SR9C for LC9. I have and carry both. I've had very good performance out of the Tauruses that I've owned but as others will attest to, that is not the case with everyone here and if you have to got to Taurus' customer service? :scrutiny:.

I have been fortunate/unfortunate to have worked on several Taurus' in the past few years. I have also owned several.

With that said, the Ruger is far superior to most anything Taurus current offers. Plus, Ruger's customer service is vastly superior, and you are supporting an American made product.

Ruger, no doubt.

Where i live there is currently a sale going on with there ruger p95 matte black version for only $278 that im strongly thinking about getting right now.Now how do i explain this one to the wife..hmmmmmm

That's a great price...they run for $300-$340 on sale in my area. Tell her it was a great sale...women usually understand sales...right?

I just got an e-mailed coupon from my LGS for a 9mm or 40S&W S&W M&P for $470. I've already bought 4 guns in the past year...but when my LGS sends out a sales flyer...so many more call my name. It's so hard to be frugal

The Taurus 92 (Beretta copy) models are the only Taurus models I am familiar with and they seem to be just fine.

$278 for a new p95, is a great deal. Those are usually $275-300 used here.
But all said, I like the ruger sr series and taurus 24/7 series.
Although the taurus grips are to wide for me and the ruger seems to fit so much better. I think the taurus has an ambedextrious slide release which would fit me cause I'm a lefty.

It's a shame that not everyone got the double entendre. :)
