On a good side note the movie didn't do that well over the weekend, came in 3rd with $12.1 million, and will probably disappear pretty quick from theaters.

Heh.

Took four friends.

Five minutes into the movie, we walked out.

Demanded our money back from the manager.

That is how you send a message to Hollywood.

Man, I wish I had done some reading here before I spent my cash!
:(

There was no attempt at even-handedness at all.
When the Dustin Hoffman character is attacking the gun industry, he has the camera's full attention.
When the guy defending the (evil) gun industry gets up to speak, his voice becomes background while the camera focuses on other characters.

I knew the tobacco lawsuits were just opening the door.
Fortunately, the real-life gun suits haven't done quite as well as the movie. :D

I don't think I've been that ticked off walking out of a movie in a long time.

Kudos, LawDog,
Wish I had thought of that.

I really wanted to walk out too but I had to see what they were up to. Now I know and I don't like it one bit! Expect the TRUTH kids to start making gun commercials any day.

I am truly sorry I didn't see this thread before I saw the movie tonight. I am so pi$$ed off right now this was the worst movie I ever saw. How can you hold an entire industry responsible when in the movie they admit the gun was bought ILLEGALLY out of a trunk. This movie had a huge gaping whole in logic that no one acknowleged!!!! Thank God for the NRA because they have forced back every one of the frivolous lawsuits and keep winning. I feel better nowing I bought another shotty tonight before the movie (a Remington 870) but when I walked out of the theatre I felt dirty.

I also thought about walking out because I read the book and knew exactly which way the train wreck was headed. To bad because it was a great book that was turned into propoganda for the sheeple.

The talking head said it takes swipes at the 2nd Amendment (her words).

Ooops! You mean the second amendment isn't a collective right that can be regulated out of existence? Looks like they know what it means after all...

I didn't like the gun message of the movie either...

But did you notice how far they had to stretch in order to make the audience angry with the gun manufacturers?

First, the movie is about a gun already banned by the AWB so this could not happen. It also involves sales of multiple guns to an individual that would have to have been reported by the dealer to the ATF. Another problem.

Most importantly, however, they had to allude to the fact that the gun companies were intentionally making and marketing the gun to criminals for illegal use... Huh? That was not developed at all -- just alluded to without specifics. And then, the topper was the fact that the gun was advertised as having a "fingerprint resistant" finish. What kind of crap is that?

The bizzare part is that if all the things they were saying about this gun company were true (not sure how that could be possible -- but assume for the sake of argument) -- I am sure a lot of us would be appalled as well.

Now, the average sheeple will think that Glock and S&W act like these bad guys portreyed in the movie and that guns like this are really for sale. And that part... is sad.

Then they'll ask why I need a 10 round magazine in a semiautomatic pistol. And why on earth would anyone want to carry one around with them. I think we should all know that more people are injured or killed with firearms than are protected by them.

hbo usually does a 15 minute filler where they focus on 'the making of....' various movies. yesterday they aired one for this one in discussion. its the first time they've ever NOT divulged the actual premise of the movie. instead, they went into how they decided to use certain sets, and how sophisticated they made the jury selection, and how there is one climatic scene with hoffman and hackman where they face off in the restroom.
not once did they discuss any particulars.

either hbo doesnt want to be seen as promoting guns or gun-control; or they dont want to agitate pro-gunnies into not watching it at the box-office.

I saw the previews this weekend. It's been out too long for them to be running previews on TV, but when you're trying to increase awareness, hey, anything goes. It's very interesting how they NEVER let you know what the movie is about. Instead they just show you the big names and the FEW action scenes. Mis-information and desparation at the same time.

well, I hadn't been paying close attention, and didn't know it had been changed from the book. My girlfried dragged me to see it, and I would have been majorly pissed if not for one thing.

They just beat the drum so hard that about 80% of the audience was grumbling about how unrealistic and preachy it was. This is in NJ.

You will note that it is not making a lot of cash. It's at $33 million. Budget was $60M, and it's running to typical advertising spot placement which means another $30M. It's in the hole, and by enough that overseas releases would be a gamble. (also, I believe the john grisham rights might not allow it, the only one of his movies that has been overseas is the frim).
