Over the summer I picked up two tins of 5.45 x 39 Russian ammo from AIM surplus during the 1 cent shipping sale. I’m very pleased with the ammo, and yes its still much cheaper than 7.62 x 39. :D I know its “corrosive” but I do clean my rifle after each range trip so no need to discuss that in this thread.

* What I wanted to mention is the two tins came with the original Russian wooden crate, which I didn’t realize would be so cool.

a) its historical and neat from a collector’s point of view

b) it makes storing and transporting the tins much easier (wooden grips on each side)

I included some pics below. You can just imagine stacks of these 5.45 crates in Afghanistan or Chechnya, ready to feed bakelite magazines.

I also wanted to mention the positive experience I had with AIM. I had a credit card issue, and my first order didn’t go through (due to my own CC company putting a hold on my card). AIM proactively contacted me and resolved it very professionally- very good customer service! You can order with confidence from AIM. :)

I live near AIM and I go pick out ammo and rifle crates from them all the time. Ammo crates are like $1.00 each and I get the rifle crates for $5.00. They have stacks of them sitting next to the door.

That is like telling a kid you live down the road from the circus or Disneyworld. :banghead: (envy !!)

But if I lived near AIM it could get pretty $$$, and then I'd catch a beating from the wife. :uhoh:

I don't think you need to look that far to find stacks of crates of 5.45!!! ;) ;) :)
