Russian Mak

A Russian Mak has been on my short list and it is fairly rare when one shows up in my area. Discovered this one locally and it is a commercial double stack Russian. Does anyone know where double stack mags can be bought that aren't an arm and a leg? I saw some on Gunbroker for some outrageous prices. The single stack mags will work but I would like some more of the double stack ones.

Bought this with 250rds of Silver Bear for less than $300. I am pretty pleased with it. I have a nice PA63 that shoots the 9mm Mak round and I have always liked it.

Nice looking Mak and good price too.

Unfortunately finding original (not after market) hi-cap magazines will be a matter of luck. Promags is an after market company who made magazines for these pistols but they have a terrible reputation. I have seen original 12-round magazines go for close to $100.

That's a great price for a Mak and ammo, especially for a 10 rounder. I don't think it's double stack though?

Finding the original mags is difficult these days. Good luck.

Yes, the hi cap Maks were only imported for a short time, and are quite rare. A friend of mine has one, and like all Maks it is accurate and reliable. As you said they can use the single stack Mags, and there used to be a little insert sold that fits in the bottom to stabilize the mag, and fill the gap, but I don't know if they're around anymore.

If you get desperate, try some Pro-Mags if you have to. They will replace (and continue to replace) mags until you get some that work properly. It may take patience. I'd start with just one...

Generally, however, just replacing the springs fixes most Pro-mag problems. (That may be a problem with a double-stack Mak mag; I doubt you'll be able to find replacement springs.)

The Pro-Mags I've had good luck with are their mags for the CZ compact guns, in both 9mm and .40.

I am a design engineer and have quite a few companies I can contact to make springs. And actually at fairly reasonable costs. There is a problem with the ProMag site so I can't see their offerings for the Mak.

I filled the mag up and I have a ten round double stack. I will upgrade the grips with a Marschal. I like the Bubinga wood they have.

Wolff may have mag springs that fit, or can be made to fit. When CDNN was selling Sig P228 police trade ins several years ago they were including four Promags with them. I changed out all the springs with Wolff, and de-burred the mag followers. Voila, perfectly, reliable mags.
