I have never liked the pertty gun thing when it comes to Milsurps. I really love the old war horses, you know, the ones that have the well used look and sometimes battle scares.
back in November I stopped off at one of the local shops and there was a well used Russian Tokarev in the case. It didn't have the ugly safety added to it and there was no inporter stamp. A closer look and I see that it's a matching 1940 Tula. 99% of the finish is gone but I like it.

It's too short to call a war horse so I will call it my Russian War Pony.

This one is most likely a Korean war bring back.

When I took it apart to clean it up, it was a little gummy on the inside.
It was my first time to take a Tokarev apart, but it was pertty easy.

The SN# on the barrel is not matching, but it is a Tula.

Everything is Tula marked and the trigger group is numbers matching.

Beautiful, I'll always have a soft spot in my heart for a gun that's PROVEN it stands the test of time and keeps on ticking :)

Beautiful gun. It looks like it's built off a Browning design... The barrel link, bushing and locking lugs look distinctively "browning-esque", as well as the slide, slide stop, trigger and mag release... Very nice looking gun, I need to get me one of those!

Did the original Colt 1903 have the same lift out action?

I've got a chinese Tokarev clone which shares this lift out action. All I can say is what a wonderful way to make a semi auto pistol ! ! ! ! It really makes stripping and cleaning a cinch.

Of course it DOES make it a lot harder to do a DA/SA or include a PROPER safety. Which may explain why the design gave way to other follow on styles.

You'll enjoy shooting it. The proper surplus 7.62x25 has some zing to it when shot from a gun this light.
