I have a question for you more knowledgeable folks. I have a pistol that has a few small rust spots on the slide. There is also a very small rust spot on the inside of the end of the barrel. Is there a way to safely remove these small spots without harming the finish or should I just send it away for a complete refinish. I would prefer to keep the original finish on the gun. Any way to get the very small rust spot out of the barrel? Thanks!

Try using some Flitz on the rusted areas. I'm presuming the gun is blued; Flitz will not harm the bluing, however do not get too forceful with your efforts. Just apply some with a clean cotton cloth and lightly wipe it off. It should remove the surface rust and leave behind a layer of protection to the affected area.

wd-40 will also remove the rust pretty easy. But i would clean the WD-40 off and re-lube the gun with some gun specific oil

Before you go using a polish on it, first put a drop of CLP/gun oil/gun cleaner on each of the rust spots and let it soak in for a few hours or overnight. Then try wiping the rust away with a soft cotton cloth. If the rust isn't too bad, that should be enough.
