s-hook size for designer jeans?

I never had an s-hook holster and need help figuring this out.

What is safest s-hook size that I that could be used for both 1) designer jeans and 2) dress pants?

Is it OK if s-hook is a little larger than a belt, or that's a no-no?

PS.
I have a choice of 1.25", 1.50", 1.75" and 2.25" s-hooks.

I have no idea what designer jeans are, but my belts are 1.5" and just barely fit into my Levis jeans and Dockers Khakis, so with most normal street clothes, you'll want either 1.25" or 1.5", depending on what size belt you wear.

Smaller belt fits more pants but is less supportive.

I would want my hooks to fit my belt to eliminate the possibility of you drawing your gun and the hooks that were one size too big don't stay on your belt, then your whole holster can come out.
