Is it possible to swap slides between the 1006 and 4506? 1066 and 4566?
Have 45s, looking for 10 options while slide assys are still available from Brownells and Midway.

Has anyone ever tried to do this with a barrel swap? I don't have my stuff here, so have no way of comparing OD of barrels and bushings; S&W says no, but they tend to play it safe when advising about parts swapping.

Not that I mind and excuse to pick up a 1006 eventually...

a 4516 slide works well on my old 4506, if thats' news to anybody...I asked wayne Novak whether he thought that was safe etc. He said he couldn't see why not. Used to do similar stuff with 9s' and I know there was a limited run of Smiths done that way.

Cheers, TF

Differences in position of the ejector on the frame may cause problems when you change slides.

OR if you are putting 10mm barrel in a .45 slide you are likely to have issues with the extractor not being long enough for the smaller case and the .45 ejector may not hit enough of the rim, and the breech face will be too wide for the 10mm round.

Go over to 10mmtalk.com. In the out of production section there is a link called "1066 on a 1006".

In this link someone states they have fired hundreds of 10mm in a 4506-1 with a 10mm upper. He notes it has to be the Dash 1.

Or you could just keep an eye out for used S & W 10mms. I have purchased LNIB 1006 and 1066 in the last 6 months for $450 and $550 respectively. These are truely great guns. Why Smith hasn't offered 3rd gen autos in 10mm is beyond me. Once you shoot one you're hooked.

YMMV. Good luck!
