There is a used S&W 1026 at a local gun shop. Asking price is $520 and they don't dicker there. I know the 1026 is a rather rare gun, but is it worth the $520 asking price. It appears in rather very good condition, doesn't appear to have been fired much.

Remember when...........

Last year the 1076 was for sale at CDNN for $300, man I wish I would have got 2 or 3 of'em:banghead:

Ughh, my 1006 just started quivering in the safe. It thinks it found its long lost brother. :D

I'd get it. 1026's are hard to find.

More than I would probably pay, but a fair price. If you actually want a 10mm and this actual model, I'd go for it. If 10mm will be something you rarely shoot, it's a lot for a "safe queen". The price is not low enough I think where you could get a lot more for you time and trouble. And I'm not sure how easy to obtain and what price S&W 10mm magazines sell for. Maybe someone else could chime in.

1026

Picked up the S&W 1026 off of layaway today. It's even better than I remember when I put it on layaway. I'd say it rates at least 95-percent. I haven't yet fired it yet. I have a few questions for you that are familiar with this model.
1. I believe that soon after this and other 3rd generation S&W's were introduced, there was some type of recall, something about punched dot marks on the bottom of the grip. What was that all about again? Mine has one dot there.
2. Did all 1026's fire with the magazine removed? Mine is marked "CAUTION - CAPABLE OF FIRING WITH MAGAZINE REMOVED"
3. Any factory magazines better than others? Regarding the color of the follower?
4. What is a good on-line source of cheap practice ammo?

Thanks

Congratulations, S&W 10xx are some of the best 10mm’s you can buy, I have a 1006 and a 1026.

My 1026, like yours is marked "CAUTION - CAPABLE OF FIRING WITH MAGAZINE REMOVED" but some of them (if not most) had the mag safety.

Here’s the info about the grip

and here is info about the de-cocker update

IIRC, that recall was for the 1076.

S&W is the only source for 10xx series mags and they all work fine.

If you plan to reload, I would go with UMC 180 gr. FMJ (#L10MM6) or Federal American Eagle 180 gr. FMJ. The UMC is a little hotter (~530 ft/lbs) and IMO the Nickel brass Remington uses is better than the competitors. I have some that have been loaded full power over a dozen times with no fatigue.
Both of these will run about $16/50.

The 1026 is one of the nicer, though seldom seen, 10mm's. Here are some alleged production numbers.

1006 26,978
1026 3,135
1046 151
1066 5,067
1076 13,805
1086 1,660
