Evening All,
I was wandering through my local gun shop yesterday and came a cross a very nice S&W 1076. The shop wanted $450 for it, comes with 4 mags and looks very lightly used. I own a Kimber 10mm and am looking to start a collection, problem is, I know almost nothing about smith autos.
So my questions would be, what should I be looking for as far as damage prone areas go? is $450 a good price? and how difficult would it be to find replacement parts?
Hope you all can help me out, if everything looks good, thinking of picking it up wednesday.......now all I need is a good excuse.
Thanks.

Smith 10mm autos are tank tough so as long as it appears to be in good condition, it very likely is. The only thing you really need to worry about is whether the "decocker fix/upgrade" has been preformed. You can determine this by looking under the decocking lever. If there are two punch marks, the fix is in. If not call Smith with the serial number and see what they have to say. I have a 1076 of later production which does not have the marks but does have the appropriate mods.

If you need to call Smith you can also order a different grip at that time. There are three available, straight backstrap, curved backstrap, and palm swell. I highly recommend the palm swell.

not a bad price, you can also buy a set of Hogues for the 1006 and use a dremel tool to relief cut them from the decocker. Trust me, it takes no longer than 20 minutes, and it makes a world of difference on the recoil/gripping of the 1076. I love mine, recoil feel like a mild 40 now

I paid $375 for mine and it is in great shape, looks like the LEO just qualified with it and didn't shoot it too much..........another way to tell if the decocker fix is done is to look at the decocker lever, if it is black a LEO armorer did the upgrade and didn't send it back to S&W......

Fair price with the extra mags. I paid recently $375 for one with one mag and around $30 each for two additional mags.

Id get it. I picked up a 1006 for $400 and love it.

Cheapest price I have paid for used mags is $20 each at a local gunshop and the asking price is $30 for new at the gunshows.

The price you quote doesn't sound bad, and the "Commander-size" 1076 is a great 10mm pistol.

It's concealable AND potent, if needed. If you've checked the gun out and it's only "lightly used," I'd jump on it.
