I am going to buy a new S&W 1911. What would be a good price to pay?
Thanks.

I paid $660 for this one, over a year ago.

They can be for a bit less today.

Good Luck...

Thanks for the responses. I found a new one today at a local dealer for $699.00. Ended up trading a Colt Detective Special and $250.00 plus tax for it. Field stripped it when I got home tonight. Appears to be a very well made gun.

We have a NIB Smith & Wesson (Sc) or scandium 1911 in our showcase
priced at $759. I checked it out last Saturday; and except for the huge
billboard type logo, it is a very nice weapon. I wouldn't mind having it
myself; but right now I can't afford it.

Ala Dan how is the trigger? The one I felt had about a 6-7 pound trigger and I wonder if it was just that gun or if all of the 1911Sc pistols are like that.

Do these guns take the standard 1911 magazines or are they different?

The mags that come with the gun are Wilson 47Ds; these have been 100% reliable in my SW1911. My advice is to stick with the Wilsons..

ATT: Brass Balls

I don't recall the trigger being extremely heavy, as compared to be
standard SW 1911. I will re-check it again tomorrow (12-02) and
post here tomorrow night; PROVIDED that I find it contrary to my
post.

Right on Dan! Thanks for doing that. I just read a magazine article about the 1911Sc and theirs broke right at 5# too. I'd be comfortable with that for a carry gun, but the model I handled earlier felt closer to 7# which is a bit too much for me.

The LE office that issued my permit to me has requested that I keep my carry guns stock so the stock trigger pull is a pretty important issue to me.

Trigger Pull weight

If you're not happy with the trigger, send it in. Mine was part of the early group subject to the recall (though I had no malfunction). I told them the trigger was stiff and a little gritty. It came back with the warranty fix and the trigger with a crisp break right under 4 lbs. S&W paid shipping both ways.

The only thing I don't like about the gun is the trigger shoe/bow itself. It is a low-end product that doesn't fit particularly well. Eventually I'll probably replace it with an STI or a Brownell's Videcki.

I see the Standard 5" model for as little as $625.00 on a fairly regular basis.
