Just picked up an N frame 28-2. Shot it the other night and it's shooting about 2" high at 8 yards with both .357s and .38s (158 gr). This is with the adjustable rear all the way down.

I would like to correct this but I would rather not try to build up the front sight. The rear sight blade has a little room above the topstrap that a shorter blade would probably do it. Does anyone know if shorter blades are available? And if not is there a good way to correct it so it shoots point of aim?

Looking at the Kuhnhausen book there were several height blades made for N frames depending on which leaf body you have. So the answer is yes. It will most likely take someone who knows the difference in the rear sights to tell what you need. Are you holding at 6:00 or are you covering the center of the target? Try holding at 6:00, also try some 125 gr mmunitions and see if that drops the POI. Some guns like a particular bullet weight and loading too.

Frankly, at 8 yds you don't even need sights, that's point shooting distance. If you're shooting at a quarter sized target spot and getting a quarter sized group exactly 2" above then just aim 2" low. The only time 2" will make any difference at such short range is if you're shooting mice.

Sights are generally regulated for 25 or 50 yards, run your target out to 25 yards and see where its hitting, I think you will find that the sights can be set on target within the available adjustments.

Get a rear sight blade kit

I have a M-14 that had a rear sight issue, I ordered a rear sight blade kit from Midway or Brownells. Its a ultra small part job to do, little springs, detent and rivet like fit. The windage shaft gets broken when you take it out.
Your gun might have had a sight swap done in the past with the wrong size.

Thanks for all the replies. The rear sight blade kit sounds exactly like what I need. I will look into it.

You nailed it earplug! I measured the sight blade and it is .146" and according to another website the .146 is for a 6". Mine is a 4" and should be a .126". When I ran the sight over to the left to measure the blade, the little pieces just fell off. It wasn't even staked. It's obviously a replacement sight.

The bad news is I lost the little spring but I'm sure I can just order another one when I get the right sight blade. Once I get the right one it should hit point of aim. :)

Thanks again for all the help guys.

If the existing front sight has the red ramp insert and is pinned, try substituting an all black sight. I've always found the red ramps to give an indistinct, blurry sight picture.
