I have an opportunity to buy either a 325pd or a model 28. The 325pd has a short barrel, the model 28 is a 4" barrel.

I like having a .45 caliber revolver, and think there is a certain "coolness" factor about the 325pd, but am a bit spooked about the possiblity of the scandium frame cracking, and what I perceive to be the faster "wearing" process on the 325pd, given its lighter weight, and alloy frame.

I have always wanted an old model 28, but it is heavier, and wouldn't conceal as easily...

What do you think?

They are both big duty size weapons. One is big for its cartridge (M-28) the other is light for its recoil (325). One should practice with the firearm they intend to carry.
What do you want to do with the firearms?
I don't consider either well suited for every day carry. One is arguably a ancient service revolver. The other is a big light weight revolver with limited usefull applications. An Alloy 1911 pattern pistol is easier to carry and about the same weight. Factor in sight radius, barrel length and trying to carry a moonclip for a reload verses a 7 round magazine.
Other modern pistols have better attributes.

I'd get the 28 without a second thought.

Pre IL, possibly P&R, well made and overbuilt for the most extreme loads.

A good set of aftermarket grips and you're off to the races.

Apples and oranges, but for carry it's the 325 hands-down. I have two scandium 45acp revolvers, a 325PD and 625-10. I shoot them a lot, with zero problems. Scandium frames don't crack on their own and are, I'm told, stronger than steel. There have been a few instances of barrel overtorquing at the factory resulting in cracks. Shows up immediately, and S&W will replace the gun.
