I'm going to get one, but which one. They all seem good. Light enough to carry and dependable. Price not an issue. Question which do you feel is best for iwb carry? Any personal/professional opinion about which is best?

Imp just gonna speak about the one I owned, Taurus 617 tracker.
I liked the gun, it shot good, and carried well. I used it as my primary defense handgun, keeping it bedside and carrying on vacations. I even took a deer with it during handgun season.

It soon developed timing issues and I sold it.

I have never seen or head of a 3", 386 from S&W. 686s and 586s, but never a 386 with that barrel length. Where did you find this?

IMG_0673.JPG I have a 617 Taurus DAO. I used to shoot 357 ammo and it handled it well. The gun is very accurate. My wrists can't take 357 any more so I shoot 38+P now. This gun also has the smoothest trigger I have ever had. Better than my LCR357. It is in my rotation of AIWB guns. I have been carrying it the last few days. I've owned it since new about Ten Years.

I have decided to go with the 617 bur can not find anyone who has one for sale

For the guns you mentioned, I would go with the S&W 686 Plus 3" barrel with boot cut grips, if you want to carry IWB, great gun, and a Quality gun you can bet your life on...IMHO...

Correction.....I think my Taurus was a 627 tracker

"On the smith and wesson site, it's called 386 night guard"

theboyuscout, I own a 386 Night Guard. It has a 2.5" barrel. It measures that length and even says so on the factory label on the plastic case from S&W. I sincerely wish it had a 3" barrel, then I would be more confident it would cleanly eject full length 357 Mag cases.

While the knee-jerk answer would be the 8 round S&W M327 I would not want to carry it IWB. While it us light it is also very wide, it is an N frame after all. The 8 round 38/357 cylinder is wider than most people think.

IMO the M386 L frame is a much better carry and it does carry 7 rounds so it's not lacking there. Add a few speed loaders and you are set...

Good luck. I want a 617 as well and have only found one of them for sale at a LGS. I don't have much interest in revolvers very often but I keep an eye out for the 617. As far as I have been able to tell, Taurus has stopped making all of them except the 617T, the Titanium version. Not sure I would want to shoot a 19(ish) oz 357. So your best bet is used firearms.
