Who makes a good holster for the S&W 386 Sc with the 3" barrel? I am looking for a belt holster with a thumb break strap. Leather, Kydex or Cordura works for me. I don't want a holster made for a 4" barrel or one that lets the end of the barrel extend out of the holster. Does anyone know of such a holster or am I looking at having a custom rig built?

The Milt Sparks PMK is a nice holster but it does not have a thumb break strap.

Will the 386 Sc Mountain Lite fit in a holster designed for the 686+ 3" ?

When you order a MS holster, you order it for you gun, not another one, hoping it will fit. When I ordered one for my wife, I ordered it for a 386PD, not a 686+, even though they're the same frame size.

You can do cartwheels with that holster on and the gun wouldn't come out.

The first 386 Sc were 3 1/8" Mountain Lites. The newer ones are 2.5". Mine is an early Mountain Lite version.

I thought it was a 3.5"? When you added SC it fooled me. The first 2.5" were PD's, that's what I have. Then they took the PD and added a stainless cylinder and called them 386SC's. Now I see they just have the 386 nightguard. The one you have is the only one silver in color with a longer barrel and the one I wished I had picked up new when I had the chance.

Anyway, my 386PD won't fit in a holster I have for my 686+. The half lug that the ejector rod goes into hangs down lower. You'd probably be best off ordering a holster. I've looked long and hard for a holster for my 386PD and can't find a good one for IWB.

how does that mountain lite shoot? I am looking for one as my trail gun?
How's the trigger, accuracy?

Had my MountainLite for about three years. Reasonable accuracy and the trigger is quite good. recoil can be fierce. I installed grips on it that were meant for the S&W 500 which fit the 386 exactly. Helps a lot with recoil but makes it bulky for concealed carry. Good trail gun - carries well because of its weight.

I like my 386 Mountain Lite but recoil can be fierce. You get used to it but it was eye opening at first. I am thinking about selling mine since I got a 386PD for my birthday and I plan on buying a 386 Night Guard. If it were not for that, I would continue to use it as my main carry piece.

Take a look at the Thumb Break Scabbard holster by DeSantis. The Retail price is $62.50 but I've bought several from a local shop for $43.

The Double Nine from Don Hume is a good holster too. It can be had for ~$40 on the street.

Here are some options from Galco.

There are many more companies out there like Kramer, El Paso, Tucker, Andrews Custom, G&G, High Noon and way too many to list. All have good products so it comes down to what you like and what feels good on your side.

Good luck finding something you like. If you are like most shooters you will need a good stiff box to store all the holsters you buy!! LOL
