Does anyone know anything about these things? I'm thinking of getting one. I carry a 59 but I'm intrigued by the thin single-stack grip of the 3904 and they're cheap. Is it a DA/SA design, or DAO? Any issues?
The S&W 3904 is a great pistol. It is DA/SA. They were made from 1988-90. I've never had any issues with mine. I originally bought mine for my girlfriend but I liked it so much, I bought her a S&W 3913LS and took the 3904 back! They were hard to find for a while but there are some police trade-ins available now. New factory magazines are a bit expensive (around $40). I stocked up on every clip I found on Ebay before they stopped gun parts auctions. There is something about the feel of single stack Smith & Wesson pistols - I have a 39-2, 639 and a 3906 as well.
As the numbered designation goes they are da/sa. If it were dao its model number would probably be 3944.
39 = single stack 9mm
4= dao
4= alloy frame
I have two single stack S&W 9mms: 39-2 and 908. I would imagine that this model is just as enjoyable as the two I have. I say go for it if you can get one.
