I just noticed that the trigger on my S&W 442 Airweight is not centered in the trigger guard. There is no noticable rubbing against the frame or trigger, but the trigger is noticably closer to one side of the guard than the other, both when at rest and if held back after firing.

It sits flush with the side of the guard on the right (sideplate) side of the gun, and is about 1/4" in on the left. Is this normal for the j frames?

BTW, the gun was purchased new and functions fine, no problems on the range or with abnormal wear that I can tell.

My 642 is slightly off toe the right, also. Gun is about two years old. Never been a problem.

So is this normal (as in, intended during production) or just a common flaw? I was thinking it might have to be offset to accomodate the sideplate, but I honestly don't know.

Thanks for the quick replies.

I think the sideplate side of the gun might actually be thinner than the other side of the gun.
At least that's what it looks like if you look at the frame above the point that the barrel is attached.
