I just purchased a 6 1/2 inch model 610, no dash. I take it this is one of the originals since it has no dash and then a number. What do you guys think of this gun and what are your factory ammo suggestions for whitetail deer? I also have only 1 set of half moon clips and need more. Any suggestions there would be appreciated.

STRONGLY recommend RIMZ polymer moonclips (http://www.beckhamdesign.com/), instead of standard steel. Check the archives on THR and TFL for MANY endorsements and the rationale behind this suggestion.
RWK, Thanks for the advice on RIMZ. I called them and their product will not fit the original 610 model since the star on the cylinder is different than the newer 610's. I have found a place where I can get the metal ones though. Thanks for the help.

Check out that Double Tap ammo as well. (I love Buffalo Bore, no slight to them.)
Is your cylinder fluted? If so then it is a first production run.
I have been able to put six shots in 5/8" at 20 yards offhand with my 610CH 6.5" with handloads. I also have a S&W Performance Center tuned 1st run 5" that is no slouch for accuracy either.
Ranch Products makes moon clips for it which are available direct as well as from www.brownells.com
I would vote for Double Tap as it is top notch ammo and is more competitively priced than Buffalo Bore & Ace Custom's 10mm Express.

The 10mm will work fine for deer.
If your state has an minimum muzzle energy rating like Illinois,(500fpe), consider the Cor-Bon offerings.
Expensive as they are, I still prefer to use the Smith & Wesson moonclips over all others.

Check out 10mm Talk, there are several 610 hunters over there and can give you some direct experiance. Another vote here for Double Tap if you don't "roll your own".
Thanks for all the advice. My gun does have the fluted cylinder...I shot some Winchester white box JHP .40 S&W ammo today and was putting all shots into 2 inches at 25 yards off hand.. 3 of the shots were into 1/2 inch easy. Not sure if I want to use .40 for deer though. I have some 10mm coming tomorrow. Deer season here in Illinois is this Friday, Sat. and Sunday so I am excited about trying this handgun out. I may have to order some of the Double Tap ammo and see how it does. Do they have a web site?
