625 Moons

While my has not arrived yet. The 625 Jm was advertised as being sold with several moon clips. New from the factory.
There are several types advertised on the web. I ordered some Easy moons.
I let you all know if they work.

I too bought the 100 lot off of ebay for $34/shipped. They got here this week and i've already got about 250rds on moon clips ready to go.

I have a supply of every moon clip Ranch products makes plus loading and demonning tools. Even have the third moon clips that hold two. Ranch makes all the moon clips for Smith. Let me know what you need and I will get a price to you.

It doesn't come with nearly enough. They really outta ship it to you with at least 10 clips to get started. Plan on ordering about 20 of 'em just to have around. If you run it a lot, you're going to need more, with the 100 pack being a perfectly sensible option. The clips generally hold up okay, but they don't last forever.

I have the Brownell's demooning tool myself.

I got some RIMZ clips which are perfectly adequate for plinking. You can't use them to carry reloads or anything like that, but it lets you save your metal clips for more intense uses. I find the clips wear out from the constant demoonining/remooning eventually, plus the occasional one you just lose.

HighVelocity, what does a moonclip checker do for you that one cannot see if you just loaded a moonclip into a revolver cylinder? The website shows a machine aluminum cylinder to seat a loaded moonclip.

The "moonclip checker" is handy at competitions, where you're not allowed to use your revolver as a "checker" (it's an automatic DQ for drawing your firearm outside of a stage, or for having ammo in a safety area); another handy thing they sell is the "moonclip saver", which straightens those clips that get stepped on during a match. I've found Cactus Tactical to be a good source for clips and revolver accessories, as well.

I highly recommend the RIMZ clips for range use. They are much easier to pop the rounds into and out of them. For field carry I'd prefer steel full moon clips which hold the rounds more securely.

You definitely want a demooner when using steel clips. You can make one in about 5 minutes with a Dremel and a length of 1/2" copper water pipe. E.g.:

(I can't claim credit for this, unfortunately.)

ranchproducts.com has moonclips...$50 for 100.

I also purchased the remooner and demooning tool.

1/2 inch copper pipe

Made a demooner today, works fine. I thought I'd need to beef up the diameter, but the pipe alone works fine.
I used a hacksaw and a file.
