I recently went through the Miculek Trigger Job DVD, and did some work on my 625. I followed his directions carefully, and skipped some areas I didn't want to mess with. Did what I'd call a "conservative" trigger job.

The results were startling - very big improvement in the smoothness of the trigger pull. The new Wolff reduced-power mainspring also lightned the pull considerably.

I took it to the range today and found I was getting some light strikes resulting in misfires. Now, I knew that was likely, with a reduced power mainspring and Winchester primers. I have the tension screw in pretty much all the way - so my understanding is that I should do the following:

1) Install a Cylinder & Slide extended firing pin
2) Use Federal primers

I'd like to install the longer firing pin, and have one ordered. Does anyone have any instructions on how to remove the existing pin? I took a quick look when I had the sideplate off doing the trigger job, but didn't mess around in that area much. Any tips would be appreciated.

Thanks!

Not complicated but take special note of this part:

"If the pin is a little long (it probably will be), you'll need to file a bit to make it fit your gun. Take the pin back out and file on the front of the "saddle" area that rides over the retaining cross pin. This allows the firing pin spring to push the new pin back into frame just a bit more."

Don't file off the tip, that just does away with what you bought the long firing pin for.

Excellent, thanks much for the help! I had figured it was probably as easy as pulling at that pin, but wanted to make sure I wasn't in for any surprises...

Is your existing pin spring-loaded? I discovered recently that this was a feature on a lot of service guns to avoid light strikes. I dont know a lot more than that but would welcome comments.

Today I received my C&S extended firing pin (C&S Part number CS188). I removed my firing pin from my 625, and was surprised to find that the C&S one wouldn't fit into the hole that the previous firing pin came out of! It's not that it's tight - the body of the C&S pin is simply too large in diameter to even remotely go into the firing pin hole.

What's up with that? Did S&W change the diameter of the pins recently or something?

A couple of mine were a bit oversize also. I was able to chuck it in a drill and buf f it a bit, to make it fit. Didn't take much, maybe .001 or so.

Hmmm...seems like an awful lot of metal I'm going to have to remove...but perhaps I'll give it a try.
