S&W 625JM Captured by Moonies

Never have understood the logic of this gun. A semi-automatic in 45ACP holds more shots, reloads faster, and doesn't require goofing around with any "1/2/full moon" clips. Nice photograph though.

They are awesome for stock revolver class competitions. Though I would stay away from the SWC bullets. Round nose bullets are way faster to reload.

Logic is over rated sometimes.

For not much more than an inexpensive quality 1911 you get a very accurate, nicely put together and finished revolver with a superb(with a little work) trigger. If you happen to like 1911s, as I do, then you probably already have a boatload of ammo for the 625.

This example fires with or without moons, but the moons are easy and quick to use. It is one of the best S&Ws I have ever used and the fit and finish is as good as anything out there. Pleasure takes many forms and practicality is sometimes ugly.

If you happen to like shooting a nice revolver sometimes and already have a bunch of 1911s, this makes for fun on pleasant sunny afternoons when you aren't in a hurry and want to enjoy a little hole punching in paper.

As Louis Armstrong said to the reported who asked him why he liked jazz, “If you have to ask, you’re never gonna find out”.

I carry an auto, but wheelguns are just plain fun.

Revolvers almost never have magazine problems or failures to feed/extract. Failure to fire? Pull the trigger again.

plus they're damn sexy.

Logic, schmogic. ;)

And best of all; I don't have to chase the brass!

Logic be launched,

That's one fine revolver you have there! The .45 round from a revolver is quite accurate and fast shooting as well. Once used to the moonclips, people can reload as fast as any magazine reload. Recreational shooting should be fun and that looks like fuuuuun!!

A friend of mine shoots a beautiful one in IDPA. If the money god blesses me - I would love one.

Love is not logical. Guns and nonlogical love can be very expensive. Sigh!

Moonclips can reload a revolver from any position, even if you're hanging upside down.

Moonclipped .45ACP revolvers have been around since WWI, when everybody acknowledged that, yes, the 1911 held more rounds, but the two big factories were set up to build lots of big revolvers, and it was quicker to change out the chamber reamer cutters and so forth on the cylinder than to gear up to build a completely different gun.

They kind of did the same thing with the three factories that were building pattern 14 enfields for the Brits - changed the chamber reamers out for .30'06 and make sure the bolt face works. Lots simpler to make an adjustment for the crew who'd been building those rifles and revolvers for years than to tear down a production line and start making a different gun.

And that's where the logic behind that gun started. I'd love one, and that's all the logic required now.

The 625 is a great revolver. Years ago I had the model 25 but then changed to the stainless model. The accuracy is excellent and the action is great.

I love semi-autos, but I've evolved to love revolvers more. I bought my first revolver so that I wouldn't have to chase my brass for reloading. Then the damn gun became fun to shoot. I don't know why, but it just grew on me. Now, revolvers are all I buy (including a 627pro, a 625 PC, and a 38 snubbie for carry). I get all my brass back, I have fun, and I never stove pipe (OK, I have had a high primer once, and a loose strain screw, and a recoil blister near my thumb..... )

I dig it. I had an SP101 in 9mm for years for the same reason this gun is cool. You can use the exact same ammo. I like not having 20 kinds of ammo around. If I can have a revolver, automatics, and carbines and use one caliber...now that is cool.

Also as semi autos take over main stream firearm market you may notice semi auto ammo being easier and often cheaper to find than revolver rimmed rounds. If you are the type that likes revolvers over autos then it makes sense to have one that shoots easiest to find ammo. If you like both revolvers and auto like me then it makes sense to have both be able to shoot the same ammo.

Great looking pieces!
