Lately, all I've been doing is examining it for flaws. You see, it's new. I have been obsessing over this issue way too much! I discovered why the bore looks off center. It's only because of the machining around the edges of the tip of the barrel. If the barrel were truly crooked the forcing cone wouldn't be nice and even all the way around in front of the cylinder.

I shot it today and my groups were excellent at 25 yards. I'm about to go clean it up and admire it. :D

Thanks for putting up with my posts in this matter.

Don't feel bad. We ALL do it! Pay good money for a new gun and we ALL examine it. Personally, that would bother me as well. But, if it shoots fine and functions correctly, I could live with it. I must admit I'm not surprised it's a S&W. I recently had a machined flaw on a S&W Performance Center auto. It was returned and corrected. I wonder, since an operator setup the machine to make the 629 barrel, how many others were shipped like yours.

It's just a result of the final hand polishing.

Over the years I've seen it on dozens of revolvers from almost every maker.

All that really matters is that the bore is straight and in alignment with the chambers.

Now I'm gonna have to dig out all my guns and check the muzzle!:uhoh: Thanks a lot!!

Actually, I've seen worse. Years ago, a friend of mine bought a new Browning M92 Carbine in 44 Mag. He thought it would be handy to have one with a 16" barrel. Off to the gunsmith for a bob-job. When he got it back, one side of the muzzle was HALF the thickness of the other side! It looked horrible, and he was SICK! It shot great, but he couldn't get over how ugly it was and sold it. I wish I'd had the money to buy it, I'd still have it. Anyway, it's all mind over matter...if you don't mind, it don't matter!

Paranoia, obsession and other words I can't even spell !! Go to Lucy [Peanuts cartoon] she will straighten you out for just 5 cents ! The only one who sees the muzzle of my M29 is a deer , and none of them complained.
