Well, I really didn't believe if I quit looking for a 7-shot 686-4 I'd find one, but I did today. It's not the 4" I had in mind but once it was in my hand, I knew I had to have it.

It just plain fit me like the proverbial glove, looks as if it has barely been shot, it's tight and has a fabulous action. It has a hammer mounted firing pin but the hammer and trigger sure look MIM to me. Strangely, it's a round butt gun, not sure if the Hoque monogrips are factory but it sure feels pretty decent for rubber. Has what I think is a partridge-style front sight with the gold bead.

I happened to be on my way to the range when I stopped by this LGS so needless to say I fired it within minutes of buying it. It is, by a wide margin, the most accurate handgun I own, I was floored, it made me look half good.

I know it's not the classic look, but to handle and shoot this handgun is a real dream. They wanted $825 for it, a consignment sale, I haggled with shop owner who pored over his notes for a few minutes, we shook hands at $795. I'm going to call the 686+ itch scratched with this find :)

Gorgeous. And the price is right.

But don't stop looking for the early 4-incher. With money being what it is these days, it's like a great investment.

I think the days are near when you won't be able to buy a decent gun for under a grand. You can't buy a stainless S&W .357 that won't grow in value.

You must spend a lot of time checking out gun stores.

Gotta look to find stuff. Congrats. :)

Sad but true. However, it leaves me with no time to hang out in taverns and houses of ill-repute, at least that's how I sell it to you-know-who :D

After seeing yet another recent aquisition I am now thoroughly convinced that you are either:

A) a secretive multi-millionaire who spends all of his time frequenting gun shops in search of every S&W revolver ever made for your enormous private collection.

Or...

B) You've sold your soul to the Devil.

At any rate I always marvel and enjoy your good fortune at finding these revolvers. Thanks for sharing them with us.

It must be B) because it sure ain't A), sadly.

It's really a process of refinement, as long as I don't buy junk, I can sell one to get one. It's not a perpetual motion machine of course, so cash must be added from time to time. For me, collecting involves buying, selling and trading.

Well having the Devil helping you does seem like a bit of an unfair advantage but your wheeling and dealing has yielded some truly amazing results.

Keep up the good work!
