Hi All,

Had my eye on this 3inch 686+ for a while now. Love the look of a unfluted cylinder, 7 rounds. This will be used for open carry around my property and a few other places in my small, very gun friendly community.

I have ordered a Diamond D leather holster with drop loop which I am excited to try out. I also added the Wolff mainspring (not reduced power) which did significantly improve trigger pull while maintaining reliability. I learned a while ago that the reduced power one did NOT work for my other 586 and 686.

I once had a 686 in a 6" barrel. The revolver shot really well. It was only a 6 rounder. I would open carry when hunting or fishing. Enjoy the S&W it looks like a great gun.

Can you explain the spring change a bit more?

I want to see the holster.

Sure!

For the spring change Wolff Springs offer a different mainspring. They offer their power rib and a reduced weight power rib. I went with their standard weight which was still a huge upgrade. Pretty simple swap.

With regards to the holster, it will take 8-10 weeks to get here. Here is where I got it:

I went with the dark brown.

The link is just to the drop loop, I paired it with the Alaska Hunter Hip.

That looks like it’s one of the 3-5-7 series, they come in 3”,5”, and 7”. I’d really like to have the 3” like that, I’m a fan of unfluted cylinders myself!

That holster looks really cool. Did you replace the spring because your gun was having an issue or to make it better?
