S&W Airlite revolvers and CCI primers don't mix? Sticky hammer?

Yeah.. But.. When you are hiking around up over 10,000' every ounce saved helps you out a lot. That's why I went with the 3xx series.

Ya' but if it decides to self-destruct when you need it you won’t be very far ahead.

An all-steel, J-frame model 36 weighs 19 oz. The steel/aluminum model 37 weighs 14 oz. That’s about 2 oz. More then a similar 3xxx. Even at 10,000 feet you should be able to handle the difference.

At any altitude I judge absolute, unquestioned – and proven – reliability to be more important then weight. Your mileage may very.

Yes, but I believe he is talking about carrying the 329 compared to a 29/629. I think the difference between those would be substantial.

I agree on the Scandium pistols. I love them in concept, but the lock business scared me off.

Sold all of them.

What you guys are is S&W's beta testers. If you want 100% reliability use something more conventional (and proven) until they get the bugs worked out - if they ever do.

Your point is well taken, Old Fluff. That's probably quite a realistic way to look at it and I'm sure, in no small part, is very true. I guess I was hoping Smith was a little further along their "working the bugs out" curve than perhaps they are.

I dug up (not literally) some of the .38 rounds with light primer hits from my 340 yesterday just to satisfy my own curiosity and attempted to get them to ignite with another (steel framed and very reliable) revolver and was unable to. I'm still hanging on to my hope this has been an ammunition related problem as all the issues have been w/manufactured reloads. Perhaps I'm like that proverbial ostrich with his head in the sand.

That being said I did place the phone call to S&W. I discussed the FTF issues w/customer service yesterday and they've forwarded a UPS label for the return of the pistol. I'm still waffling a bit as I really don't want to be w/out it, but common sense would dictate having it checked out.

Anyway, thanks for all the discussion. I'll keep you posted...
