I bought this little jewel even though the internet reviews on it crabbed about the "false reset." Yes, it does have a false reset. There is a felt click as the trigger is released after a shot. Then as the trigger is released fractions further, the real reset takes place.
I am so good a voiding warranties. The first thing I did after one range session to prove it shoots and is reliable, was take it completely apart.
Now if anyone thinks this thing is a mini 1911, you are very far from being correct. There is a lot going on in there that differs from the 1911. I polished everything that touches or rubs and still the false reset persisted. Then I took a hard look to see why.
It seems that the lever that depresses the firing pin safety plunger drops off the plunger with a vengeance because the spring that activates the plunger is quite robust and the round plunger itself has unrounded edges. That is what causes the phantom click and the false reset.
The safety plunger in these first run guns is made out of polymer. From what I read, the newer ones are now steel, but I can not confirm that. They should have been steel from the get go.
I took a jewelers file and ramped the plunger so the activation lever didn't drop off as radically. By-by false reset.
I would love to be able to talk to an S&W technician or even a design engineer, but customer service blocks that idea lick-a-tee split. The best even they can do is e-mail them.
I hope this little blurb helps anyone who has or is thinking of buying a CSX.
