Go buy a lottery ticket. Your luck is pretty amazing.:)

Finding it was luck but I knew what I was looking for. I did a search in gunbroker for Ruger Service Six in .38 Special. I knew they would likely be a cop gun since most .38 versions were made for PD’s that required that caliber, and that the NYPD authorized them, first in blued with a hammer and then in stainless with a spurless hammer. When I saw it I was pretty sure it was NYPD issued. Seeing the seller pretty much confirmed it. He owns a gun shop on Long Island, NY, where lots of NYPD cops live. He even mentioned it was a retired cop’s gun but didn’t remember the agency. It was a very good bet it was a NYPD gun but I checked the serial number and saw early 1987. I knew the last class to get blued guns with hammers was in 1987 so I put in a bid. As a matter of fact, I bought a S&W 5946 from the same dealer, and it is stamped Garden City Police Department, which is a wealthy suburb on Long Island. I guess a lot of cops retire and unload their guns on this guy.

But I’m happy to have it. I like guns with history. I own plastic guns also but they don’t give me the same feeling.

My closest neighbor retired from that area. He raises chickens and sells eggs to the local road stand grocer. Nice guy. Not a cop, a lawyer. I don’t know which side He doesn’t like to talk about life before he moved down here. Big city lawyer in his late fifties from a wealthy family moves to a no name berg in the swamps to become a chicken farmer - I prefer not to guess.
