I'll reserve judgment till I see an MSRP, and examine one of those in person, before I declare it to be "on par" with the Ruger LCP.

Evidently S&W now wishes to compete with Rugers LCR. Competition is a good thing.

For now, to me, its just another ugly gun from S&W. TJ

it was at the shot show here in vegas the other week. a few people got to shoot it. said they got nice groupings. but, the site that i stole this pic from has this little guy for preorder at $599..... it's the only price anywhere for the gun so i don't understand how this site can charge for a gun that's got no price yet....

Yeah I read a couple of threads on this gun. Has a slide stop that locks it open after the last round.:what:

The best guess for this little 380 for price is solidly in the 500's. Which seems about right for S&W.

500+ makes sense seeing that you have to buy it with the laser.

I bet its a nice gun BUT being 200+ bucks more then the LCP or Kel Tec might price them out of the market.

Offering a product as competition does not forcedly mean on par with. It might end up blowing the LCP out of the water or it might be an unreliable POS. Or it might be a more expensive gun that can't do anything more than the LCP/P3at.

This gun is almost .5" taller but is slightly thinner and basically the same legnth.

Doe this thing have a thumb safety

I'm not a fan of the manual thumb safety at all unless this thing has a light crisp single action trigger pull to go with it.

I like that the sights look to be a real step up over the LCP.
Another gun in the market is a good thing though. And the fact that companies are seeing fit to many new CCW specific guns shows how that market has grown.

It will be interesting to see range reports and what it ends up retailing at.

Contrary to what seems to be the popular opinion on this thread, I think that is one UGLY little gun...I love S&W, but, wow.

Another little .380, but no .380 ammo for sale.
380 ammo is starting to show up all over the place.
When I purchased my Diamonback yesterday the gun store had just received an order and they had cases of 380 stacked up on the floor four feet high and about six feet across.

with the unobtrusive integrated laser, i think they're offering something that the other .380 manufacturers aren't. the optional LCP laser is pretty bulky and ugly in my opinion. i still like my LCP, but this thing is definitely worth a look when it comes out.

Kokapelli, send some of that ammo to Florida! None here yet. I reload but not for .380 but I'm in pretty good shape for now. As for the Bodyguard .380, I'm almost certain I'm getting one. No problem being a beta tester since it's a Smith (no problem with Ruger either). I carry a J frame but my LCP has it's place at times. I'm thinking the Smith will replace the LCP. I'll know for sure when I find out more about it. I like the slide locking back after the last round if it does do that.

I have been putting off getting a LCP for the wife, I will be giving this gun a hard look. My wife basically "requires" a laser on any pistol she owns so the extra cash would be worth it, if the laser is worth a crap and not like the one that was was on her Walther P22.

EDIT:

Upon further investigation I found out that the laser had to be manually turned on, not like the CT laser grips. That will keep me from buying the gun, sorry S&W you lost me there.

Which part of AZ are you in? I'm in Tucson and the ammo for sale situation here is worse than ever. No handgun ammo at all on the shelves in the Walmarts. Even a few months ago there were always some random boxes, 357sig's, 32's etc.

.380 ammo just went on sale here... $2 off per box, and the normal price isn't bad.

It's a good-looking little gun, IMO, and the integrated laser is a great idea. I'm looking forward to seeing one in person.

I live southwest of Phoenix in Chandler but do most of my shopping for shooting equipment in Mesa.

With all the compact 380's out there, and little ammo for those, I think they would have done better coming out with a 9mm to compete with the small Kahr and Kel-Tec 9mm's.

All the Best,
D. White

I have a PM9 but carry my Micro 380 most of the time. I only carry the PM9 when I know I will be in bad areas. The 380 is just so much easier to carry and as for 380 ammo I have over 2000 rounds of it that was all purchased in the last 4 or 5 weeks.
