looking to purchase a S&W 442 and I've done a lil reading on J frame grips, the main contenders seem to be barami hip grips, and the desantis clip grips.

do you guys know of a manufacturer that sells rosewood or real wood hip/clip grips with finger grooves?

I dont want to fiddle with assembling grips from 2-3 different companies (barami/tucker t combo) and etc. so I'd like to get this done in one go.

thanks guys

Also would like opinions on the clip draw, as it has quite an advantage knowing I can use nicer grips. Thanks guys

My thoughts?

Good for stuffing in your pants to check a bump in the night.

Bad, in that it offers no gun protection from body sweat, or dust Bunny's from wearing out your clothes, or padding & soft corners between you and the gun when carried all day.

Don't know of anyone making them out of fancy wood.
Molded plastic is stronger on the belt hook that has to take all kinds of stress.

Long time Barami hip grip user here, I just recently bought the Desantis Clip Grip, and IMHO, it's the better product:

I have to say, I like these more than my old Barami/Tyler-T grip combo. This has all the ergos in one package, and with the checkering and glass-filled nylon contruction, it gives a better purchase on the gun. The only thing though is that I'm going to take some sandpaper to the back of these grips, they don't fit the grip frame that well and I find they sort of irritate my love handles LOL!!!

So yeah, if you're in the market for these type grips, I would highly consider the Desantis Hip Grip. The S&W 642 pictured is my EDC, and I don't use a holster. I use the grips. The gun you are looking at has been carried for over a year in the hot Kansas sun (and cold winter) and it doesn't have much finish wear at all. I've carried this gun in excess of 8 hours while driving, even when using my old Baramis no issues to report. Comfortable and effective, but the Desantis Clip Grip is even better. Excellent product, make sure to have a nice belt as that is what keeps these things in your pants. The "clip" just keep the gun from falling DOWN your pants!

I plan to use this as a sweatpants/drawstring pants gun for around the house where my edc g19 or g26 require a solid belt/holster.

Having said that is any option better or worse? I like the clip now as it has a much longer clip for sweatpants/scrubs maybe

I don't quite understand but the Desantis or Barami grips will work well for that purpose, and I prefer the Desantis grips.
