Why did smith stop production of these? Been trying to locate one what gives?

Saw a new one at the last gun show, was tempted to pick it up, really like my rifle version. It seemed a little pricey, over 400, for something that is discontinued. I'd read a few places about ejection issues with the pistol version. No real life experience though.

My guess would be is sales were too low.

While I like these type of guns and have a number of them, the guns aren't very popular.

If the range I go to is any indication, these things are insanely popular. I always see a handful at the public range I go to. My bro has one and it is a lot of fun.

The 15-22s have problems though. My bro's fired out of battery and blew off the extractor (into the side of my face). This happened within maybe 500-1000 rounds, a couple of range sessions with a .22  S&W customer service was terrific but evidently this is a common problem with 'em. The replacement parts have been perfect.

They seem to show up at ranges all over but still can't find 1 for sale as everyone that has 1 says they'd sell a kidney before selling the 15-22P. Sheesh, O'well guess I'll keep looking.

M&p 15-22p

The rifle and pistol version have identical parts except for barrel and stock-all loading/ejection are the same. Feeding problems are caused by ammunition that the gun doesnt like (remington wax on rnd) and not clean/lube properly.

I have a rifle and 22 pistol versions-all swap parts with ease. I have had only a few missfeeds using CCI and have over 3000 rds fired.
Dont use crappy ammo-use federal multi packs-cheapest and works fine.
Note: I have heard of a number of people getting into legal trouble by swapping a stock and forearm on the pistol version. Creating an SBR or AOW takes about 30 seconds and can get you 10 years in prison. Get a stamp-KNOW THE LAWS!!!! The feds dont allow ignorance as a defense .

I spent almost a month tracking the pistol version once I knew they were being discontinued and bought 2-from 2 different locasions. $410.00 for one
$499.00 for other. I did a partial trade for both-out of pocket less than 3 bills for both! Kinda spendy but they aint makin no more. Lemme know if anyone else heard about the feds and the conversion issue.

Talked to a vendor at a gun show last weekend. He was talking to someone about the pistol version. I mentioned I'd heard they had been discontinued, he said he hadn't heard that, said he could still get them at the warehouse...

Wish I could get that vendors name and number. I have the 15-22 rifle and wanted to complete the 22 series with an AR style pistol. Still looking..

Yep the M&P 15-22 P that was discontinued. I've heard CMMG has a pistol AR-22 but I really want the Smith one because I already have mags for it. The Smith has a polymer upper whereas the CMMG is heavier because the upper is conventional.

Found 1 at the Tulsa Arms Show and you would think at a show that advertised 4000+ tables there would have been more there. Saw 2 but only 1 was for sale the other one was displaying black dog 50 round mags. The one I bought was new from a dealer but was a personal gun so it had a UTG grip and a Bushnell micro red dot with 2 mags and was 460.00 OTD. Have put about 400+ rounds thru it with no problems using CCI Blaser ammo. This thing is fun and like its big brother the 15-22 rifle very addictive. Using the 22 caliber dueling tree my son and I blew thru over 500 rounds in about an hour. We have 10 25 round mags and 1 black dog 50 round mag so it goes really fast. Yep glad I finally found another pistol that the whole family loves shooting.

They are indeed quite a bit of fun. This is the one that followed me home.

A previous post said they are the same except barrel. This is not the case as the bolt assembly is different on the pistol.

I wondered why they had disappeared off Gunbroker. Now it makes sense why there were tons of rifles and no pistols. I got mine for $329 last year, and it's been a lot of fun.
