With ammo prices the way they and the possibility of another gun ban, I have decided to buy another 9mm. I am looking at a S&W M&P 9mm or FNP-9 but I am open to others. It must have hi-cap mags of 15 plus but that’s the only criteria. Have any of you shot both of these guns or one of them and what are your thoughts.

Ozark go shoot or at least handle both. No one here knows what will fit your hands but you. Go handle them and see what feels best and points best for you.

See, I think the trigger on the FNP9 is sweet - the DA is so smooth on the one I tried at a gun show 2 months back. I really want one.

Check out the Beretta PX4 Storm in 9mm. It has a 17+1 capacity, a true DA/SA with decocker (and second-strike capability), accessory rail, a smooth trigger, and interchangeable backstraps like the M&P that allow you to adjust the fit to your hand size. The rotary barrel lock-up system helps reduce perceived recoil and it's an extremely accurate gun.

The PX4 can also be converted to a decocker-only (G-model) with the installation of optional low-profile decocking levers.

I highly recommend it!

The FNP is built in the same factory as the M16 and the machine guns the .gov uses. They are starting to get quite a good reputation.:)

The M&P has a consistent trigger for each shot. As far as I know, it does not have "second strike" capability. To get a second strike you'd have to rack the slide again.

The FNP is a traditional DA/SA gun. The DA pull is supposed to be pretty good, but it is different from the SA pull. I believe there is also a DAO version available as well.

They are both good guns. I'm learning that I prefer a consistent trigger from shot to shot, but YMMV. As long as you decide what features are important to you and pick accordingly, either one would be a good choice.

Me, I'm tempted by the low price of the FNP, but I think my next 9mm will be a S&W M&P.

The Taurus 24/7 Pro 9mm is 17+1. It also has an external safety if that's important to you. Grip is awesome, mine has gone bang every time.

My vote goes to the M&P.

Although, admittedly, I do not have an FNP.

I doubt you would be disappointed with either one though.

I have handled the M&P and like it, I have nothing against Taurus but I am not a big fan to their 24/7 Pro pistols. I have not seen a FNP accept in magazines and on the net, but have read a lot of good things about them. I will take a look at the Beretta PX4.

One of the reasons the for the FNP is that my wife who only shoots a couple of times a year, feels more comfortable shooting DA/SA guns. She does not feel as comfortable shooting my Glocks or XDs. Right now her favorite gun is a Beretta 92, she is 5ft tall and 103lb and IMO the grips are way to big for her but she shoots well with it. This gun will not be for her but she might shoot it some. However I am a little reluctant to buy a gun without ever even holding one, not that I have not done it before.

I did not know the Taurus 24/7 Pro, had a external safety. How long have you had yours for and has it feed HP ammo ok.

Ozark, I handled an FNP today again today at a local shop. I like 1911s and XDs for grip feel if that helps for comparison. The FNP felt very nice, and had a surprisingly nice DA trigger for an auto loader. SA was pretty nice too, it wasn't 1911 nice, but it was nice.

Thanks a lot, that was what I was hoping for.

I own both

I own both of these Pistols In 9mm

Actually I own the Browning Pro-9 which is the same as the FNP except I think you can't "Cock & Lock" the FNP like the Browning but I don't know this for a fact?

The FNP is DA/SA with decocker just like the USP the Take down is just like a Sig. It has the second strike capability. The trigger is great in both actions and is actually very consistent, the single action is really nice. It comes with two different backstraps.

The Smith is a great double action shooter very comfortable and points real nice. The three interchangeable grips are nicer than the FNP's and the sights are also better.

I like my service size 9mm's to be SA/DA so my vote goes to the FNP.

I like my PRO-9 better than my USP and 226 and it's American made if that matters to you.

I am going to buy the FNP-45 over the M&P 45 as soon as it comes in. Actually, I know I will end up getting both so I should say I'm going to get the FNP first.

I agree with ugaarguy. No one can tell you what you like better.

Ozark--I'm in MO as well, let me know if you find anyone that has any of these pistols for comparison. Around here it's nothing but Kimbers and Glocks:barf:

I haven`t shot an M&P but I live the feel and I`m pretty sure one is in my future. A buddy of mine recently got an FNp40 that I put some rounds through. It felt pretty good in the hand but to my hand the M&P feels a little better. Shooting it I didn`t exactly cover myself with glory. SA was okay,DA was...just okay. A little creepy, with so so letoff. Maybe other examples are better, not that this one was actually "bad" in any way. Both pulls are better on my CZ75B though, for example. It struck me as being a perfectly competent, high quality pistol that wasn`t particularly outstanding in any way. If you can shoot one before you buy. I don`t think you`d be disappointed with it at all but you may be more impressed with something else. The M&P has gotten rave reviews but since I haven`t shot one (yet) I can`t really comment on it.
